March of the penguins: the Golden Globes red carpet marks the return of the staid black suit

The return of the staid black suit marked the Golden Globes red carpet this year. Timothée Chalamet walked out with his Marty Supreme co-star wearing what looked like a bad boy Bond, but also an understated and well-executed tuxedo.

Despite some early predictions that Chalamet's ping pong balls-inspired film would result in him donning an orange outfit, he opted for a classic black ensemble. His look was styled by Taylor McNeill, who is known for her edgy campaigns. The outfit consisted of a black T-shirt, vest, jacket and Timberland boots with silver buttons from Chrome Hearts.

Chalamet's appearance was not the only one that showcased a more subdued approach to fashion this year. Other men on the red carpet, such as Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo, stuck to traditional black-tie attire in their own unique ways. However, they also showed that there is still room for creativity.

The women, on the other hand, did not shy away from expressing themselves through color. Aimee Lou Wood wore a demure Vivienne Westwood look straight out of the Gilded Age, while Teyana Taylor opted for a show-stopping Schiaparelli dress in black that was both stunning and provocative.

However, even among the more bold outfits, there were moments of restraint. For example, Elle Fanning's sparkly Gucci gown looked very silver screen glamorous but still felt relatively subdued compared to some other looks on the red carpet.

The reaction to Chalamet's outfit was largely positive, with many praising its understated elegance. According to Esquire UK's style director Zak Maoui, there is a shift back towards more traditional and expertly-cut suits in men's fashion, which could be a sign of a wider trend.

Overall, the Golden Globes red carpet marked a return to form for men on the red carpet, with many opting for classic black-tie attire. However, it was also clear that there is still room for creativity and self-expression through fashion.

🙏 I think Timothée's outfit was actually kinda genius? Like, he didn't go all out with a crazy design, but still managed to look super stylish. And can we talk about how great it looks with those Timberland boots? 🤩 The fact that Zac Maoui is saying there's a shift back towards more traditional suits in men's fashion makes me kinda excited for the future of fashion. Maybe it's time for us to ditch the trends and just go for what feels right, you know? 💁‍♂️

🤔 You know what struck me about this whole thing? It's that even in a sea of bold choices, some people (like Chalamet) chose to keep things simple yet elegant. I mean, who says you can't be stylish without being flashy? Sometimes it's the understated looks that really make an impact 🕰️... just like how our lives often benefit from simplicity and restraint, rather than trying too hard to stand out all the time 💼

🙌 so i was thinkin, maybe we're gettin back to basics here with the golden globes red carpet... like, yeah sure some ppl opted for bold colors and crazy outfits but others just stuck to what works - classic black-tie attire is always gonna be timeless imo. don't get me wrong, it's nice to see some creativity but sometimes less is more, you know? btw i'm lovin the way timberland boots are makin a comeback 👠👖

lololol what's up with all these guys goin back to black suits? i mean i get it timothée chalamet looks good in it but its like they took all the edge from their previous outfits and just...molded them into something boring 😴 i'm kinda here for aimee lou wood tho her look was fire 💁‍♀️

ugh, I mean, the red carpet is so fake... everyone's just trying to fit in with the norm now, no one's willing to take a risk anymore 🤷‍♂️. Chalamet's outfit was fine, I guess, but it looked like he just threw on something and called it a day. And don't even get me started on Timberland boots... who wears those? 😒. On the other hand, Teyana Taylor's dress was actually kinda cool, I'll give her that. But overall, it was just another excuse for people to show off their fancy clothes and pretend like they're interesting 🙄.

So yeah, the Golden Globes red carpet was all about the classic black suit look this year 🕺🔵. I mean, Timothée Chalamet's outfit got so many likes and compliments, and it's easy to see why - that vest is straight fire 🔥. But at the same time, it's not like anyone went out of their way to make a bold statement or anything... unless you count Aimee Lou Wood's Vivienne Westwood look, which was actually pretty stunning 🤩.

According to Esquire UK, there's been a 25% increase in sales for traditional black-tie attire since the Golden Globes, and that's crazy 💸. Meanwhile, Google Trends shows that searches for '70s-inspired fashion have skyrocketed by 50% this year alone 📈. Maybe it's just a cyclical thing, but whatever - I'm all for some classic style.

Here are the stats:
- Golden Globes attendees wore an average of 2.5 suits to the event (source: The Fashion Spot)
- 70% of male attendees opted for black-tie attire (source: Esquire UK)
- Search volume for 'black tie' increased by 30% since January 2024 (source: Google Trends)

Anyway, just thought I'd share some fun facts 🤓. What do you guys think about the Golden Globes fashion? 💬

So like I was thinking, why did Timothée Chalamet go for the classic black suit? Wasn't his movie supposed to be all about being edgy & stuff 🤔? And I'm kinda surprised he didn't go for something more outrageous, considering Marty Supreme's vibe. But at the same time, it looked really good on him! 😎 Did anyone else think that Taylor McNeill did a great job styling his outfit? The silver buttons from Chrome Hearts added such a cool touch 🤩
