'Massive' Russian strikes on Ukraine hit negotiation table as well as people, Kyiv says – Europe live

"Massive Strike Hits Ukraine, Sabotaging Peace Talks"

In a brazen display of aggression, Russia launched a massive wave of air strikes against Ukraine's two largest cities - Kyiv and Kharkiv - in the early hours of Saturday. The drone and missile assault left one person dead and at least 23 injured.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of "cynically" ordering the attack, which further undermines efforts towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. In a scathing statement on X, Sybiha described this latest incident as another example of "Russian terror", making it clear that the Ukrainian people will not be intimidated.

Ukraine's air force confirmed that Russia launched 375 drones and 21 missiles in the strikes, which targeted energy infrastructure, disrupting power and heat supplies to large parts of Kyiv. The attack is seen as a stark reminder of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.

In response to the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on Russia to "fully implement" agreements made with US President Donald Trump regarding air defense support for Ukraine. This comes as envoys from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States met in Abu Dhabi for a second day of talks aimed at ending Russia's nearly four-year invasion.

The attacks also cast a shadow over the ongoing peace negotiations, which are seen as a critical moment in the conflict. The UAE's foreign ministry has described the talks as part of efforts to promote dialogue and identify political solutions to the crisis.

Despite the progress made on Friday, certain sensitive sticking points remain unresolved, including territorial issues. The Kremlin has reiterated its demand that Kyiv withdraws its troops from areas in the east that Russia claims are rightfully theirs.

As the situation continues to escalate, it remains to be seen whether the ongoing diplomatic efforts can successfully navigate the complex web of interests and concerns at play.

🤞 I mean, think about it - if Ukraine was hit with such a massive air strike right now, when everyone's trying to have peace talks and all that... maybe it's just a sign that Russia is really committed to ending this conflict? Like, they're not messing around anymore? And on the other hand, Ukraine's response shows they won't back down either! It's like, they're both serious about finding a solution. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes you gotta think outside the box, right? 🤯 Maybe this is actually an opportunity for them to come up with some real, tangible solutions that everyone can agree on... 💡

😱 this is getting outta hand, cant believe russia is doin dis 2kraine 🤯, Putin needs 2 get his act 2gthr & think bout da innocent ppl sufferin 🙏, peace talks are all good n all but u gotta make sacrifices n compromises 4 da greater good, saboteagin efforts like dis will only lead 2 more bloodshed n pain 💔, its like he's tryna play hero in a movie n forgets dat real life is all about da human cost 🎥👊

Russian aggression is like a bad meme that just won't die 😂🚫

Ukraine's air force is like, totally on it 🤖💪

Can't we all just get along and have some peace talks? 🤞🌎

🤔 This latest development is a stark reminder of the precarious nature of the conflict in Ukraine 🌪️. The brazen air strike by Russia, with a staggering 375 drones and 21 missiles, serves as a chilling example of the escalating tensions between the two nations 💥. It's imperative to acknowledge that this kind of aggression can have devastating consequences for civilians, particularly those already struggling with the humanitarian crisis 🤕. I'm concerned that the ongoing peace talks may be undermined by these actions, which seem designed to intimidate and disrupt the fragile dialogue 💔. Can we find a way to navigate these complex interests and concerns without further escalation? The world is watching, and it's time for diplomatic efforts to yield concrete results 🌟

Omg this is super worrying 🤕. I mean I totally get why Russia would wanna try to intimidate Ukraine but like come on, a massive air strike? It's not exactly subtle, you know? 😒 And the fact that they're disrupting power and heat supplies to whole cities... it's just brutal 💔. I feel so bad for the people affected by this.

I don't think Putin's actions are gonna help with the peace talks at all 🤦‍♀️. It's like, what's the point of even trying if one side is just gonna keep provoking the other? 🤷‍♂️ I'm all for Ukraine standing up for itself but maybe they could try to find a way to communicate with Russia that doesn't involve all this aggression 😕.

It's still interesting that the US and UAE are talking about finding a solution, though 💡. Maybe if everyone just sits down and talks things out... who knows? 🤔

🤕 what's going on with these countries? one minute they're talking peace then next Russia is bombing Kyiv again... it's like a never ending cycle. I feel so bad for all those people caught in the middle. Can't they just talk things out?! 🙅‍♂️

man this is so concerning 🤕 375 drones and 21 missiles just dropped on innocent people's lives... how many more ppl gotta lose their homes, their power, heat too? its like russia just doesnt care about peace anymore 🙅‍♂️ what if the talks in abu dhabi actually fail? whats next for ukraine & the world? 🌎💔

🤔 This strike just feels like a never-ending cycle of violence and retaliation... is it even possible for us to break free from this pattern? 🌪️ It's like we're stuck in some kind of collective nightmare, where no one can wake up and say "enough". Meanwhile, innocent lives are lost and people suffer because of our inability to find common ground. I keep wondering if the talks in Abu Dhabi are just a distraction from the real issue at hand - the lack of empathy and understanding between nations. We need to take a step back and ask ourselves what's really driving these actions... is it fear, pride, or something else? 🤷‍♂️

man this is getting crazy 🤯 Russia's actions just keep escalating and it's like they're trying to sabotage any chance of peace 🚫. I feel bad for the people of Ukraine, especially with their power and heat supplies being disrupted like that ❄️. It's like Putin's playing a game of cat and mouse, using air strikes as some kind of ultimatum 😬. But at what cost? The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is already dire, and now it's just getting worse. We need to find a way to calm things down before it's too late 🕰️. These diplomatic talks in Abu Dhabi are a step in the right direction, but we can't afford to lose momentum 😩.

man this is getting crazy 😱 i mean whats next russia's gonna start a war with usa too? 🤯 like cant they just talk things out? i feel bad for the ukrainians, been through so much already... 375 drones and 21 missiles?? that's straight up insane 🚀 what was russia thinking?!?! 🤔

🚨😬 this is getting super scary for civilians in Ukraine, one person dead and 23 injured? that's not even counting all the others who might've been hurt in the rubble or hospitals 🤕 meanwhile Putin's just sitting over there like a dictator, "cynically" ordering attacks and blaming it on Russia... 🤥 and now we're supposed to believe US President Trump was part of some secret agreement? 🤑 what really goes down in these talks? 😒

I'm all for Ukraine's right to defend itself, but I gotta wonder if this is gonna backfire big time 🤔. Russia's already got a lot on its plate, what with the sanctions and the whole NATO thing... does Putin really need another excuse to escalate? 🚨 And what about those drone attacks? How many more innocent lives are we talking about here? 😔

I mean, I get that Ukraine needs air defense support, but is it too much for Russia to handle its own security issues? And what's with the territorial disputes? Can't they just chill on that front for a sec? 🤷‍♂️

It's all so... complicated. We're talking about two countries with deep-seated grievances, and we need some kind of magic solution that'll make everyone happy 💫. But until then, I'm gonna be holding my breath, hoping that diplomacy can kick in and save the day 🙏.

man this is getting crazy 🤯 i mean im watching these peace talks on x and its like one step forward two steps back russia just hits ukraine with this massive air strike attack what was the point of all that effort from the west lol like we thought we were making progress but nope they just go and do something stupid like this gotta wonder if they even care about anyone besides putin 🤷‍♂️

omg what's going on in ukraine?! i remember when donald trump was president 😱 like 4 years ago? i thought we were supposed to be friends with russia by now. but nope, it looks like they're still causing a lot of trouble. i feel bad for the ppl in kyiv and kharkiv, those drone strikes sound super scary 🤯. can't they just talk things out like everyone else? 🙏 it's not like there's only one way to solve this problem. anyway, i hope these peace talks work out or something. my grandpa was always saying we should be more diplomatic... 😊

omg what a crazy turn of events 😱 just saw this thread and i'm like wth russia just escalated things big time!! didnt they think their air strikes would scare everyone into agreeing to their demands?? 🤦‍♂️ its just gonna push the ukrs further towards joining the eu and then russia is left looking like a total villain 🚫 anyone else thinking this is a major setback for peace talks?

🚨 I'm telling you, this is just a textbook case of both sides playing hardball. The West is all like "we're gonna help Ukraine" but what's the real motive? Is it really about stopping Russian aggression or is it about keeping Ukraine in our sphere of influence? 🤔

I mean, let's be real, if Russia really wanted to sabotage peace talks, they could've done it weeks ago. They've been playing this game of chicken with NATO for years and now they're just trying to regain momentum. Meanwhile, the US is still backing Ukraine without any clear exit strategy, which is basically begging for more conflict.

Ukraine's all like "we won't be intimidated" but honestly, who is? The Ukrainian people are already paying the price in lives and livelihoods. It's time for someone to step back and say "okay, let's talk about the real issues here". 💡

man this is so frustrating 🤯 russia's actions are like a huge roadblock to peace in ukraine i feel for the ppl caught in the middle 😔 they just wanna live their lives without all the drama & violence what's next gonna be another wave of attacks? 🚨 i'm keeping my eyes on those diplomatic talks tho 🙏 fingers crossed they can find a way forward 💡
