St. Thomas Men's Hockey Sinks to Falcons, Series Split

The usually dominant St. Thomas Tommies suffered a shocking loss to Bowling Green Saturday night in the series finale, falling short 3-1 to snap their winning streak.

Just minutes into the game, Alex Gaffney put up his 17th goal of the season, putting the visitors on the board with a swift shot past Falcons goalie Jacob Steinman. However, Steinman's strong performance proved pivotal for Bowling Green as he went on to make 31 saves, thwarting St. Thomas' chances.

In the second period, the Falcons capitalized on their momentum, scoring not once but twice more to take control of the game. The Tommies struggled to find any rhythm behind goalie Aaron Trotter, who was forced to make just 20 saves as Bowling Green skated away with a narrow victory.

The loss marks only St. Thomas' second defeat in 11 games this season and leaves them with a one-point lead atop the CCHA standings, now mere two points ahead of Michigan Tech. The Tommies had previously enjoyed a comfortable advantage but saw that gap shrink dramatically following the series split.

St. Thomas will look to bounce back against Augustana next week, hosting the Vikings in a two-game series starting Friday night at 7:07 p.m.

man, gotta be honest i'm both stoked and worried about tommy's chances... they had that dominating streak going and now they're only one point ahead of michigan tech it's like they were relying too much on winning every game and now they're back to square one. but at the same time, a loss to bowling green is still just 1 loss in 12 games, so it's not like they're completely off track gotta see how they bounce back against augustana next week, hopefully they can get back to their winning ways

OMG, what's going on with St. Thomas?! They were on fire and now they're getting shut down by Bowling Green? I was rooting for them to keep their winning streak alive! The goalie Aaron Trotter just didn't seem to be having a good game... 31 saves from Steinman though, that's impressive! just got out of that game and i'm still trying to process what happened bowling green was on fire and st thomas just couldn't keep up they've been dominating all season but tonight they were the ones getting dominated by steinman he's like a wall in net anyway, still super proud of my falcons no matter how many goals st thomas scores

I'm not surprised by St. Thomas' loss . Their winning streak had to end eventually, and Bowling Green was the perfect team to snap it . Steinman's performance was incredible, and it's clear that Falcons' defense was on point . The Tommies just couldn't find any consistency behind Trotter's goal line .
