I think the Phillies are being smart by looking at those guys like Griffin Canning & Zack Littell - they might not be stars but they've got decent stuff & won't break the bank . Also, signing someone with a qualifying offer attached (like Valdez) could give them some draft pick protection in case things don't work out... just gotta weigh pros & cons carefully
I think the Phillies are being pretty smart by targeting those middle-tier guys . I mean, yeah Framber Valdez is a great pitcher but that draft pick loss would be huge . And Zack Gallen's age is definitely something to consider... 30 is not old for a starter at all, but it's still old . Griffin Canning seems like a solid choice, his ERA was pretty decent last season and he's got a good price point too . I think the Phillies should also keep an eye on those guys like Littell and Quintana... they might not be stars but they can definitely bring some stability to the rotation .
