NASA says plane's 'mechanical issue' results in 'gear-up landing' at Houston-area airport

A NASA plane made an emergency landing at Houston's Ellington Field Airport on Tuesday, resulting in a gear-up touchdown that sent sparks flying along the runway. The incident occurred at around 11:30 am when the aircraft experienced mechanical issues upon landing.

According to the airport's director of aviation, Jim Szczesniak, first responders with military subcontractors were called to the scene, and the runway was promptly closed until the aircraft could be safely removed.

In a statement on social media, NASA spokesperson Bethany Stevens revealed that the cause of the mechanical issue was not specified. However, she confirmed that an investigation would be conducted by NASA into the matter, emphasizing that all crew members were safe at this time.

Eyewitnesses reported witnessing the dramatic scene unfold as multiple crews surrounded the aircraft following the incident. The full extent of the damage and potential consequences remain to be determined as authorities continue to investigate the cause of the gear-up landing.

For now, passengers and staff are breathing a sigh of relief that everyone involved in the incident is accounted for, albeit shaken by what can only be described as a harrowing aviation emergency.

Ugh, I was watching some old vids on YouTube last night and I started thinking about how far space travel has come πŸš€... but then this crazy news broke out about that NASA plane making an emergency landing at Ellington Field Airport 😱. Like, can't even land safely without something going wrong? It's like, we've had SpaceX's Starship get damaged on its maiden voyage just last year πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, I'm glad no one was hurt in this incident, but it's just another reminder that space travel is still super unpredictable and requires a whole lot of luck to go right πŸ˜….

I guess what gets me is how much hype there is around NASA and space exploration these days 🌠. We've always been fascinated by the stars and want to explore them, but sometimes we need to take a step back and appreciate that it's still not as safe or reliable as flying on a 747 ✈️. Anyway, I guess all we can do is wait for more info from NASA's investigation πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ...

🚨😬 I think it's crazy that NASA had an emergency landing at Ellington Field Airport 🀯! Can you imagine the fear and adrenaline rush on the runway? πŸ˜… It's good to know all crew members are safe, but still, mechanical issues can be super scary. πŸ‘ Let's hope they get to the bottom of what went wrong. πŸ’Ό The fact that first responders and military subcontractors were there quickly is awesome πŸ™. Maybe this incident will lead to some improvements in safety protocols? πŸš€

omg can you believe this?? 🀯 like a plane literally caught fire on the runway lol I was just thinking about exams tomorrow and some crazy mechanical failure happens with NASA? πŸ™„ anyway i feel so bad for the crew members, they must be super shaken πŸ˜” glad to hear everyone is safe tho! πŸ’– but seriously what's going on with these planes? πŸ€” can't even land safely anymore 🚫

OH MY GOSH 🚨 I cant even believe this happened on our own soil!!! A NASA plane just had a total meltdown right here at Ellington Field Airport and it's a miracle no one was seriously hurt! I mean, sparks flying everywhere? That's crazy talk 😲 And the fact that they had to do an emergency landing is already bad enough. But what really gets me is that we don't know what caused this yet πŸ€” I hope NASA does their job and gets to the bottom of it ASAP so we can all feel safe again πŸ‘

Ugh, this is just great... another one of these "minor" incidents where people's lives could've been at risk πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, what were they even thinking with that gear-up touchdown? It's a miracle no one got seriously hurt, but now we'll probably be hearing about some lawsuit in the future πŸ€‘. And NASA's like "oh no, something went wrong" without even bothering to say what, it's just so convenient... meanwhile, the general public is left wondering what could've been avoided if they'd done their job right πŸ˜’. Safety protocols at NASA must be pretty lax if that's possible πŸ’₯.

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Man, I'm just glad no one was hurt in that crazy NASA plane incident at Ellington Field Airport πŸ™. It's wild to think about how close things could've gotten - sparks flying everywhere and all 😱. You gotta feel for the crew who had to make an emergency landing like that, it's a huge stress on them already 🀯. I'm sure they're all shaken up but thankfully everyone involved is okay πŸ’•. Now, let's just hope NASA gets to the bottom of what went wrong and can prevent something like this from happening again πŸ’ͺ.

😱🚨 I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt in this crazy NASA plane crash at Ellington Field Airport 🀞. Can you even imagine being on that runway when sparks started flying everywhere? 😲 The fact that all the crew members are safe is what matters most right now πŸ’•.

It's a good thing the airport's first responders and military subcontractors sprang into action fast ⏱️. Close call indeed! Now, I hope NASA can figure out what went wrong without any major issues πŸ€”... fingers crossed for a smooth investigation process πŸ‘.

🚨 Omg I'm still shaking thinking about this NASA plane emergency landing at Houston's airport 🀯! Gear-up touchdown? Sparks flying everywhere? That's some crazy stuff right there 😲. Glad to hear all the crew members are safe, but still super worried about what could've been 😬. Hope they get to the bottom of this mechanical issue soon and figure out what went wrong πŸ”„. This is one way to put a scare into you for a day! πŸ˜…

🚨 Omg just heard about this NASA plane incident at Houston's Ellington Field Airport... like, sparks flying everywhere 🀯!! Can't even imagine how scary that must've been for the passengers & crew πŸ™ thankfully everyone is safe tho... but seriously, what caused it? πŸ€” NASA needs to get to the bottom of this ASAP πŸ’₯ hopefully they'll figure out if it was a mechanical issue or something else entirely... fingers crossed for a smooth investigation process 😊

Ugh, I'm still on edge after reading about that NASA plane emergency landing 😱🚨! A gear-up touchdown is like something out of a nightmare - I don't know how the crew managed to keep everyone safe πŸ™. The fact that multiple crews surrounded the aircraft and the runway was closed ASAP shows that authorities took it seriously πŸ’―.

I'm glad to hear that all crew members are okay, but the cause of the mechanical issue still has me wondering what could've gone wrong πŸ€”. An investigation is a good step in the right direction, I hope they get to the bottom of it soon πŸ”. And can we talk about how chaotic eyewitnesses must have felt watching it unfold? I'd be super anxious if I was there πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. One thing's for sure: this incident will be a major wake-up call for NASA and air safety in general 😬

🚨 Oh man, that's crazy! A NASA plane doing an emergency landing in Houston and it's like something out of a movie πŸŽ₯! I'm just glad everyone involved is safe, that's the most important thing right now πŸ˜…. I can imagine how scary it must have been for the passengers and crew to witness that gear-up touchdown and sparks flying everywhere πŸ”₯. The NASA investigation should totally get to the bottom of what went wrong - hopefully it'll be a smooth sailing process from here πŸ›«οΈπŸ’¨

Omg what a close call!!! 🚨πŸ’₯ I'm so glad no one was seriously hurt, fingers crossed they get to the bottom of what went wrong tho. This kind of thing always makes me nervous when i fly πŸ›«οΈπŸ˜¬ NASA is super reliable and safety should be their top priority πŸ‘

idk why these planes have 2 gears lol, it's like they're trying to make things more complicated than necessary... anyway, glad nobody got hurt but omg sparks flying everywhere? that's some crazy stuff! think they shoulda done a pre-landing check before landing, all this drama could've been avoided 🀯. and now the runway's closed, great timing for everyone else's flights, right? just hope they figure out what went wrong and make those necessary repairs ASAP πŸ‘
