New York's prison strike has $1 billion tab – and climbing

🤔 I'm thinking, like, what's the point of deploying 3k National Guards into prisons if we're still gonna have this staffing crisis? It feels like they're just band-aiding it instead of fixing the underlying issues. Like, how many people does it take to run a prison system? We should be focusing on getting more staff in there permanently, not just temporary fixes 🚫💸 1 billion dollars is crazy talk, I'm all for increasing funding but we need to think outside the box here.

😒 I'm so tired of this whole thing... The $1 billion bill for National Guard deployment is crazy! 🤑 We need to find a way to address the root cause of the staffing shortages, not just throw more money at it. And another $535 million? That's just throwing good money after bad 💸. What's wrong with increasing funding for recruitment efforts or training programs instead? It seems like we're just treating symptoms here 🤕. I'm all for closing underutilized prisons and reducing parole rates, that'd be a step in the right direction 👍

😒 The whole situation is kinda wild... I mean, $1 billion is a lot of cash, and it's only because they're trying to cover up for the staffing shortages. It feels like the state is more worried about having enough guards in place rather than figuring out why there's such a huge shortage in the first place 🤔. Like, what's going on with all these people not showing up to work? Is it really that hard to fill 13,500 spots? 💸

I feel like this whole situation with the National Guard and correction officers reminds me of when I was in college 🤔. We had student unions protesting for better pay and benefits, and it seemed like a huge deal back then 💸. But now that I'm older, I realize it's just another example of how institutions struggle to adapt and find sustainable solutions.

I mean, think about it, $1 billion is a crazy amount of money to be spent on a temporary fix 🤑. It's not like the state is getting some kind of magic solution out of this deployment. And let's be real, 3,000 guards in prisons just seems like a Band-Aid on a much deeper issue 🔨.

I'm with Senator Salazar on this one - we need to start addressing the root causes of this problem, like reducing our reliance on solitary confinement and increasing parole opportunities for older inmates 🤝. It's time for some real change, not just more patchwork solutions 📈

man this is getting crazy $1 billion in expenses is insane for 3k guards deployed 🤯💸 and to think they were only meant to be temporary lol now we're stuck with 76% capacity in prisons it's a total mess 🚫🏰 gotta do something about rising violence and excessive overtime or else this cycle of staffing shortages and deployments keeps repeating itself 💔
