No. 12 Michigan State rallies to beat Northwestern 76-66

No. 12 Michigan State Pulls Off Thrilling Comeback Against Northwestern

In a high-energy matchup, the No. 12-ranked Michigan State Spartans overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and an eight-point lead by Northwestern Wildcats in the second half to secure a hard-fought 76-66 victory on Thursday night.

The turning point came midway through the second half when senior forward Jaxon Kohler sank a three-pointer, giving his team a 46-45 lead. He later scored another basket after teammates grabbed two offensive rebounds, putting Michigan State ahead by eight with just over six minutes left to play.

However, Northwestern refused to back down, pulling within two points with only 2:04 remaining on the clock. But Jeremy Fears Jr., who scored all 15 of his points in the second half, hit a crucial layup and was followed by a thunderous dunk from Coen Carr to seal the win for Michigan State.

The Spartans' victory marked their sixth in seven games, showcasing their ability to respond to adversity and overcome challenging situations. On the other hand, Northwestern struggled to contain Kohler on the 3-point line, allowing him to score crucial baskets down the stretch.

Despite a strong performance from Nick Martinelli, who scored 28 points for Northwestern, the Wildcats ultimately came up short due to their inability to slow down Michigan State's offense or keep Fears off the boards. The Spartans outrebounded their opponents by 42-25 and capitalized on 16 second-chance points.

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo's team was more efficient at the free throw line in the second half, making 17 of 22 attempts. However, they still committed seven turnovers to Northwestern's eight.

MSU all day ๐Ÿ† - their comeback game vs NW is proof they're for real ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Tom Izzo must be proud of Jaxon Kohler's clutch shooting ๐Ÿคฉ. Fears Jr. and Coen Carr are straight fire ๐Ÿ’ช. Spartan nation, you can't look away from this team right now ๐Ÿ˜Ž

omg what a game!!! ๐Ÿคฏ i'm so impressed with how michigan state came back from that huge deficit, it shows their mental toughness and teamwork ๐Ÿค jaxon kohler was on fire ๐Ÿ’ฅ that three-pointer midway through the second half sealed the deal for them! and coen carr's dunk at the end? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ pure excitement! coach tom izzo must be so proud of his team ๐Ÿ‘ but nwu didn't give up, i love their spirit โค๏ธ and jeremy fears jr was a beast ๐Ÿบ his stats in the second half were insane! 15 points is no joke ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Man, that comeback by Michigan State was wild! ๐Ÿคฏ They were down 7 points at halftime and an 8-point lead from Northwestern, but Jaxon Kohler just wouldn't quit ๐Ÿ™Œ. His three-pointer with like 5 minutes left in the game sealed the deal for them. And Jeremy Fears Jr.'s layup and dunk combo was straight fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. I mean, Northwestern put up a great fight, but they just couldn't contain Michigan State's offense. It's all about how you respond to adversity, right? ๐Ÿค” And those second-chance points were huge for them. They outrebounded Northwestern by 42-25! That shows their depth is getting better and better. I'm loving the Spartans' resurgence this season... brings back memories of when they used to dominate on the court all the time ๐Ÿ˜Ž

OMG u guys!!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽ‰ MSU is on FIRE right now!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ They came back from being down by 8 points in the 2nd half and won against a really tough team like Northwestern ๐Ÿคฏ! Jaxon Kohler is a total baller, I love how he just kept shooting and scoring those threes ๐ŸŽฏ! And that dunk by Coen Carr at the end was insane ๐Ÿ’ฅ! MSU's coach Tom Izzo must be so proud of his team ๐Ÿ™Œ. They're having an amazing season and I'm totally here for it ๐Ÿ˜†. Go green! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

I'm loving this comeback story from Michigan State ๐Ÿคฉ! They really showed their mental toughness and team spirit by fighting back from a big deficit. I mean, Jaxon Kohler's three-pointer was the game-changer ๐Ÿ“ˆ, but it's also gotta be Jeremy Fears Jr.'s clutch performance that sealed the deal ๐Ÿ”’. Northwestern gave them a run for their money, but MSU's defense and offense just clicked in the right moments. Tom Izzo must be super proud of his team ๐Ÿ˜Š. Now, let's see if they can keep this momentum going throughout the season ๐Ÿคž!

I'm loving how Michigan State came from behind like that! It's clear they've got some great depth and chemistry on their squad ๐Ÿคฉ. But what I find really interesting is how Northwestern couldn't quite contain Jaxon Kohler when he was hot - it's a reminder that in big games, defense can make or break you ๐Ÿ”’. And those second-chance points were huge for Michigan State! It just goes to show that when teams are able to capitalize on their opponent's mistakes, they can turn the tide of the game quickly โฑ๏ธ. The Spartans' ability to stay focused and execute under pressure is definitely a testament to Tom Izzo's coaching ๐Ÿ™Œ

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." They really took it up a notch out there with that comeback! Spartans showed some grit and determination, and it paid off in the end. Northwestern didn't back down, but ultimately came up short. Guess you could say they just couldn't quite keep up with Michigan State's momentum

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ just watched this crazy game and Michigan State is sooo clutch! Jaxon Kohler is like a sniper out there ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ”ด I was on the edge of my seat when he sunk that 3-pointer to tie it up, and then the dunk from Coen Carr was INSANE ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ’ฅ Jeremy Fears Jr. is a beast too, he just kept grinding and got the W for his team! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Michigan State's 2nd half strategy was pure genius, slowing down their offense and getting second-chance points was key ๐Ÿค” but they gotta work on those turnovers, 7 to Northwestern's 8? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ still, that win is so satisfying, I'm hyped for the Spartans! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽ‰

Yooo ๐Ÿคฉ what an incredible comeback by MSU! I mean, down by 8 points in the 2nd half and you come back to win? That's just amazing! Jaxon Kohler is on FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ his three-pointer with like 5 minutes left was the game changer. And can we talk about Jeremy Fears Jr. ๐Ÿคฏ hitting that layup and dunking it home? The kid's got skills! ๐Ÿ˜Ž Northwestern played hard, but MSU's offense just wouldnt quit. And hey, a win is a win, right? 6 out of 7 isn't bad at all for the Spartans ๐Ÿ‘

omg i just found out that michigan state won against northwestern and i'm literally dying from excitement lol what a comeback btw jaxon kohler is a beast on the court i mean he's only like 25 but he's already making shots from way downtown ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ€

OMG, what a game!!! ๐Ÿคฏ MSU is on FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ right now! Their comeback was AMAZING ๐Ÿคฉ and Jaxon Kohler's 3-pointer was the GAME CHANGER ๐Ÿ’ฅ! Can't believe they went from being down by 7 to winning it all by 10 points in just one half ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. And Jeremy Fears Jr.'s dunk at the end was pure MAGIC โœจ. Northwestern had some great moments, but MSU just kept pushing forward ๐Ÿš€ and didn't let their opponents bring them down #MSUFansForLife #SpartanNation #ComebackKids ๐Ÿ‘

I'm low-key impressed with how Michigan State handled that comeback ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. Jaxon Kohler is a total game-changer on the 3-point line ๐Ÿคฏ and I think he deserves way more recognition for his clutch performances like this one. Northwestern had some great moments too, but they just couldn't keep up with MSU's offense. The Spartans' ability to capitalize on second-chance points was huge โฐ. And let's be real, Jeremy Fears Jr. is a beast ๐Ÿฏ. Coen Carr's dunk at the end was insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ! Tom Izzo's team seems to be finding their groove and I'm excited to see how they finish out the season ๐Ÿคž

man this game was CRAZY!!! michigan state just proved they can come back from ANYTHING ๐Ÿคฏ and jaxon kohler is on FIRE ๐Ÿ”ฅ i mean who needs a halftime lead when you got seniors like him who are gonna knock down threes left and right? but seriously tho, tom izzo's team showed some real grit and determination. and that dunk by coen carr at the end was just pure perfection ๐Ÿ’ช it's gonna be tough for northwestern to bounce back from this one

man what a game!!! ๐Ÿคฏ michigan state totally had it coming back from that big deficit but jaxon kohler just stepped up and hit some huge threes for them... i love how he kept his cool under pressure, you feel? ๐Ÿ”ฅ and fears jr was on fire in the second half, can't blame him after playing so well in the first half. ๐Ÿคฉ tom izzo's guys showed great resilience to come out on top, really proud of that. ๐Ÿ’ช but na northwestern had some good moments too, especially nick martinelli who put up some serious points... 28 points is no joke! ๐Ÿ“ˆ what a game, i'll be replaying it all night ๐Ÿ˜ด

I watched this game with my grandkids and it was absolutely insane! ๐Ÿคฏ They just kept coming back from these huge deficits, like a never-say-die attitude. I loved the senior forward Jaxon Kohler, he made some clutch shots down the stretch. And that dunk by Coen Carr? Wow, what a slam! ๐ŸฅŠ It's moments like those that remind me why sports are so special - it's not just about winning or losing, but about the drama and excitement of it all.

man, what a wild game! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ i'm not surprised michigan state came back like that, they've been looking pretty solid this season. but 8 points down in the second half and they just go on a crazy run? that's some crazy stuff. Jaxon Kohler's three-pointer was huge, no doubt about it ๐Ÿคฏ. Northwestern's defense is all over the place right now, can't seem to contain koehler or fears jr. on the boards for michigan state, 42-25 is a big number, that's gonna make life tough for them in the tournament
