NYC’s borough presidents wield new power over housing decisions. How will they use it?

🤔 this is a game changer for NYC housing scene, devs can't just ignore community needs no more! Reynoso's comprehensive rubric is a good start but we need to see the real numbers on affordability increase ASAP 💸. Hoylman-Sigal's plan for Bayside and Rockaway sounds solid too - those areas are crying out for some much-needed housing love 🌴🏠. Community groups might be worried, but I think this new system will actually help devs who genuinely want to build affordable homes get the chance to do so 💪🏼.

🤔 I'm so down with this change... but at the same time, I'm like, what about all these community groups? They're worried that borough presidents will just favor developers and screw over local residents 🤑. And on the other hand, I get it, we need more housing, especially in areas that are struggling to keep up 👍.

But can we really trust borough presidents to make decisions that benefit everyone equally? Like, what about the rubric they're using? How will it even work? It sounds like a total gamble 🎲. And what's with the appeals board? Is that just gonna be another way for developers to strong-arm their way into getting what they want? 😒

And don't even get me started on affordability... if borough presidents are gonna reverse decisions, how will we know if it's because of genuine concerns or just because they want to make a certain developer happy 🤑. I guess only time will tell... and honestly, I'm kinda anxious to see how this all plays out 😬

I'm low-key hyped about this news 🤩 - it's about time NYC borough presidents had some real power when it comes to housing decisions! I've been saying for ages that our local leaders need to be more involved in shaping the future of our neighborhoods, and this new system is a huge step in the right direction.

It's so refreshing to see Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso taking control of his borough's development goals and prioritizing affordable housing - let's get more homes built in Bensonhurst and Midwood! 💪 I'm also loving that he's going to consider reversing Council decisions if they don't align with his community-focused approach. This guy is all about putting people over profits, and that's something we need more of.

Of course, there are some concerns about the appeals board, but I think it's a necessary move to prevent developers from pulling applications just for the sake of having one 🙅‍♂️. We need more homes in areas like Bayside and Rockaway, and if this system helps get that done, then I'm all for it.

Let's keep an eye on these borough presidents and see how they use their newfound power to drive positive change! 👀

the idea of borough presidents having real power over housing decisions is kinda cool 🤔 i mean its about time someone listened to the people who actually live in these areas instead of just the rich devs who wanna build luxury condos on the outskirts of town.

i dont get why community groups are worried tho, cant they see that this new system is gonna help more affordable housing pop up in areas that really need it? its not like these borough presidents are gonna start ignoring the council or anything 🙄 i think its a step in the right direction and hopefully it means devs will start listening to the communities instead of just lining their pockets.

OMG, this is gonna be interesting 🤔💸 I mean, can't blame them for wanting to take control over the housing situation, especially with all these gentrification issues going on. But idk about the appeals board thing...it seems like a middle ground between community input and developer pressure 😐. What if it just becomes a ploy to get rich developers to build more affordable housing in areas that need it? 🤑
