Philadelphia Residents Take Advantage of Rare Snow Day, but Services Remain Disrupted

The city's snow emergency is still in effect as residents found creative ways to enjoy the rare winter weather. With over nine inches of accumulation recorded at the airport, Sunday became one of the biggest snowfalls in a decade. The massive snowfall prompted local authorities to impose strict services across the city.

Despite the shutdowns, many residents turned out to take advantage of the snowy conditions. At Rittenhouse Square, identical twins Austin and Evan slid down piles of snow on South Street. Others enjoyed winter activities like sledding at the Philadelphia Art Museum, where dozens gathered to either sled or watch others doing it. A woman and a child were among those who took part in this activity, which has become a popular event for locals.

Residents also made use of shovels to dig out their homes, with one resident shown carrying a shovel outside her home at Ann and Thompson streets in Port Richmond. Meanwhile, snow plows cleared neighborhood roads in Schwenksville, Montgomery County.

However, not all areas were accessible due to icy conditions. On Main Street in Manayunk, pedestrians navigated through the snow and ice, while shoppers took advantage of services still open. A backhoe operator was seen clearing the parking lot at the Manayunk Crossing shopping center on Main Street.

As the city continues to grapple with cleanup efforts, residents remain optimistic about the rare winter weather. With temperatures expected to stay in the teens and 20s during the day before dropping to single digits, locals are advised to bundle up for the rest of the week.

ugh i feel so bad for those ppl who didnt get snow days tho they gotta deal with work and stuff like that meanwhile ppl over here are having the best time ever lol what's up with that? ๐Ÿคฃ anyway i heard rittenhouse square was a total hub yesterday people were sliding down hills and having a blast its definitely a great excuse to stay home but still gotta respect those who cant

I just love snow days! ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ Who needs school or work when you can have a giant snowman outside your window? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm actually thinking of building one with my friends today... we were supposed to have art class but I don't think that's gonna happen. My mom is being super helpful though, she's making hot chocolate and everything! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ On the other hand, I heard some people are still stuck inside because their roads are too icy... bummer. Does anyone know how to make a good hot chocolate? I've been trying different recipes but it's just not right yet ๐Ÿ˜…

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ I'm loving how Philly is making the most of this snow day! It's awesome to see people having so much fun sliding down hills at Rittenhouse Square ๐ŸŽฟ๐Ÿ’จ, and those sledding sessions at the Art Museum are definitely a sight to behold ๐Ÿ˜‚. And can you believe there was a woman and kid duo hitting the slopes too? That's just pure joy! โ„๏ธ On a more practical note, it's great that residents are taking care of business by shoveling out their homes ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿšฎ. I do wish some areas were more accessible though, like Main Street in Manayunk - those icy conditions can be treacherous ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Anyway, all in all, Philly is rocking this snow day vibe ๐ŸŽ‰!

ugh I'm so glad Philly got a snow day lol ๐ŸŒจ๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ but omg my heart is breaking seeing all these disruptions ๐Ÿ˜ฉ especially with services still down it's like they're taking advantage of people in need, you feel? And can we talk about how beautiful the parks look right now though? ๐ŸŒณ it's like nature's own winter wonderland โ„๏ธ anyway I'm just gonna stay cozy at home with a hot cuppa and enjoy this snow day vibes ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ugh, I just can't get enough of this snowday ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ! As a resident of Philly, I've gotta say it's been a blast having the city all to myself. I mean, who needs to leave their house when you can have a whole winter wonderland in your backyard? I spent the day cozied up by my window, watching the world go by and just enjoying the peace and quiet.

But for those of us who couldn't stay indoors (like our neighbors with tiny humans to wrangle), it was a great excuse to get outside and make some memories. I loved seeing all the creative ways people were playing in the snow โ€“ sledding, building snowmen, even just making snow angels in their front yards. It's amazing how something as simple as a little bit of snow can bring everyone together.

Of course, there are still some major hiccups to deal with (hello, ice and frozen pipes!). But overall, I think this snowday has been a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Bring on the hot chocolate and the fireside vibes โ€“ I'm ready to cozy up for the rest of the week! โ˜•๏ธ

OMG ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ... i feel so bad for ppl stuck at home with no internet ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ’ป but on the bright side, who needs wifi when u can have SNOW DAY โ˜ƒ๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i mean, sledding at the art museum is a whole new level of fun ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚... and those twins @ Rittenhouse Square are giving me LIFE ๐Ÿ‘ฏ! ๐ŸŒŸ

omg i love how philly residents took advantage of that epic snow day ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ! like who needs services when you can have a giant snowball fight in rittenhouse square? ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ˜‚ and can we talk about how cute those identical twins are, sliding down snow piles on south street? ๐Ÿคฃ they're literally the winter wonderland versions of frodo and sam from lord of the rings! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ but seriously though, i'm so jealous of all the fun people had out there. snowy conditions are no joke tho, icy roads are super sketchy ๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta give it up to those snow plow operators in schwenksville who worked tirelessly to clear the roads ๐Ÿ™. and btw, who needs service disruptions when you can have a backhoe operator like that one clearing parking lots? ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”จ

โ„๏ธ I think it's awesome that Philly residents made the most of this crazy snow day! On one hand, I can understand why services had to be disrupted - all that snow is a lot to handle ๐Ÿคฏ. But on the other hand, it's great to see people finding joy in the winter weather. Who doesn't love sliding down a snowy hill or making snow angels? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I do feel for those who are still dealing with icy roads and inaccessible areas though - safety should always be the top priority! ๐Ÿšจ It's just a shame that not everyone has equal access to these winter wonderland activities.

Overall, I think it's amazing how Philly residents are taking this rare snow day in stride. Who knows when we'll get another one like it? โ›…๏ธ

omg I'm so glad they got a snow day ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ! people were having so much fun out there sliding down hills and stuff ๐Ÿ˜‚. but like seriously can't they just clear the roads already? it's crazy how some areas are still all icy and whatnot โ„๏ธ. and yeah that woman with the kid sledding was awesome ๐Ÿ’ช. I'm just glad no one got hurt or anything ๐Ÿ™. now we just gotta wait for the city to finish cleaning up, which is gonna take forever ๐Ÿ˜ฉ.

๐ŸŒจ๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ I'm so glad some people got creative with this snow day... sledding at the art museum sounds like a blast ๐ŸŽฅ but omg who needs services when you have SNOW ๐Ÿคฉ? still can't believe it's been decades since we had this much snow, hope it warms up soon tho โ„๏ธ๐Ÿ˜’

man i feel bad for those people stuck at home cuz of the snow ๐Ÿ˜” i love how philly residents just made the most of it tho! i mean who needs services when u got a sweet sled run @ phila art museum? ๐Ÿ‚ and i love how people were all about shoveling out their homes like they're on a mission ๐Ÿ’ช. but seriously, icy conditions are no joke, hope everyone stays safe and warm ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

omg u guys i had such a blast on sunday ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚ i was at rittenhouse square with my sis evan and we made snow angels lol we even tried sliding down the biggest hill but i fell down like 5 times ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŽฟ then my friend alex asked me to join this sled party at art museum and it was SO much fun ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ˜† we took turns going down the hill and screaming our lungs out it was literally the best snow day ever!

Yooo, I'm low-key loving this snow day ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ! It's crazy how people find ways to make the most of it, you know? Like those twins at Rittenhouse Square, sliding down hills like pros โ„๏ธ. And who wouldn't want to sled at the Art Museum, right? It's like a winter wonderland up there! ๐ŸŒณ I'm also impressed by all the shoveling going on, some people are like "I got this!" with their shovels out and about โ›๏ธ.

But for real though, it's not all fun and games. Icic streets in Manayunk? Not ideal ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. And what's up with the backhoe operator at the shopping center? That's some serious dedication ๐Ÿšง.

All in all, though, I think this snow day has brought out the best in Philly. Residents are coming together to make the most of it, and that's what it's all about ๐ŸŒˆ. Can't wait to see how cleanup efforts go! ๐Ÿ’ช

it's kinda cool that philly residents made the most outta this snow day, but i'm still frustrated about the services getting disrupted ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. like, yeah, sledding at the art museum is a fun way to enjoy it, but what about people who need access to healthcare or other essential services? shouldn't they be prioritized too? anyway, at least the cleanup efforts are underway and temps are gonna stay relatively low for a while โ„๏ธ. hopefully everything gets back to normal soon!

I donโ€™t usually comment but... I was watching this snowfall on live stream all morning ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ and itโ€™s like the whole city just came alive! People making snow angels, having picnics in the middle of the street... itโ€™s so chill ๐Ÿ˜Ž. And I feel for those who are trying to shovel out their homes โ€“ 9 inches of snow is no joke โ„๏ธ! But at the same time, I think itโ€™s awesome that everyone is being all about community and making the most of it ๐Ÿค. Only problem is, I donโ€™t have a shovel or warm clothes... guess Iโ€™ll be sticking to observing from my cozy indoor spot ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Wow! ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ I'm loving how Philly residents are making the most of this epic snowday. The twins sliding down snow piles at Rittenhouse Square is too funny . And I can relate, there's nothing like having a day off from work to indulge in winter fun. Sledding at the Art Museum sounds like an amazing way to enjoy the snowy weather ๐ŸŽฟ๐Ÿฐ. The idea of using shovels to dig out homes is so practical too! โ„๏ธ

I'm lovin' how Philly residents made the most of that epic snow day! They're really gettin' creative with all the winter activities ๐Ÿ˜Š. I mean, who wouldn't want to sled at the Philly Art Museum? It's a great way to have some fun while still enjoyin' the snow. And can we talk about them shovels? People were out there bustin' it out like pros โ„๏ธ.

But for real though, the city's still dealin' with the aftermath. Icy conditions are no joke, and it's good they're takin' it slow to make sure everyone's safe ๐Ÿ™. Still, I'm glad to see residents stayin' positive about the whole thing. After all, when life gives you snow, make some snow angels โ˜ƒ๏ธ!

I FEEL LIKE THE SNOW IS LIKE THE PERFECT EXCUSE FOR PHILADELPHIA RESIDENTS TO GET OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN!!! ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ THEY'RE MAKING THE MOST OF IT BY SLIDING DOWN HILLS, GOING SLEDDING AT THE ART MUSEUM, AND EVEN JUST ENJOYING TIME IN THEIR OWN BACKYARDS. I MEAN, WHO NEEDS SERVICES TO BE WORKING ON A DAY WHEN YOU CAN HAVE SNOWBALL FIGHTS AND HOT CHOCOLATE PARTIES INSTEAD? ๐Ÿตโ„๏ธ IT'S LIKE THE CITY IS GIVING RESIDENTS A BREAK FROM THE DAILY GRIND. AND LET'S BE REAL, IT'S NOT EVERY DAY YOU GET TO SEE PEOPLE HAVING THIS MUCH FUN IN THE SNOW!!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Man I remember when we used to get a snow day every year it was like Christmas morning! Nowadays everyone's always stressing about work and school, but honestly, who needs to be at their desk when you can build a snowman or go sledding? ๐Ÿคฃ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ I'm all for some creative ways to enjoy the winter weather, even if it means taking out the shovel myself. And I have to say, those kids sliding down the hill at Rittenhouse Square looked like they were having the time of their lives! ๐Ÿ˜‚ The city might not be working as usual, but that's what makes this snow day so special โ€“ we're all in this together and making the most of it! โ„๏ธ
