Read the Report on Alex Pretti’s Killing — and the Bizarre Q&A CBP Gave Congress First

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been accused of failing to provide a timely report on the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old US citizen who was killed in Minneapolis by two CBP agents. The agency had drafted its own questionnaire with questions about the incident but instead sent Congress its responses to the list, which were largely evasive.

The report, which has been published by The Intercept, reveals that the shooting occurred after a Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) was confronted by two female civilians blowing whistles who were ordered to move out of the roadway. The officer pushed them both away, and one of the females ran to Pretti for help. A struggle ensued when CBP personnel attempted to take Pretti into custody.

The report, which was sent to Congress after a deadline had passed, provides some details about the incident but largely avoids making any conclusions or providing evidence to support speculation that Pretti's gun accidentally went off during the shooting.

CBP has denied claims by administration officials that Pretti planned to massacre immigration officials. The agency has also claimed that it defers to other agencies in answering questions about its own actions.

Critics of CBP are calling for greater transparency and accountability from the agency, with some lawmakers saying that they will introduce legislation to limit the use of force by Department of Homeland Security agents and require DHS to track use of force incidents. The incident has also raised concerns about the Trump administration's campaign of intimidation against communities perceived as threats to its agenda.

The Intercept report highlights the growing trend of government agencies using their powers to intimidate and silence critics, which has become a hallmark of the Trump era.

omg I'm so messed up by this story 🤕 those CBP agents should be held accountable for what they did 💔 it's crazy that they're dodging questions and making excuses instead of just telling the truth. I mean, who pushes people away and then gets shot? 😱 and now we find out that one of the females who was blown off her feet had to run to Alex Pretti for help 🤝 that's insane! The fact that CBP is trying to cover this up and silence critics is just devastating 💔 it's like they're more worried about their reputation than people's lives. I'm so tired of politicians and government agencies acting like they're above the law 🙄 we need transparency and accountability now, not more cover-ups! 🚫

the whole thing is just so messed up 🤦‍♂️. first off, it's ridiculous that cbp waited until after a deadline to even submit a report on this incident - what kind of agency doesn't respect its own deadlines? 💥

and then there's the fact that they sent congress all their answers with like super vague responses... that's not exactly how transparency works 🙅‍♂️. and now we're supposed to just trust that cbp will magically start giving us more info without any pressure or legislation? 🤣 yeah right.

it's also pretty clear that cbp is trying to deflect blame and avoid accountability for this whole thing... it's like they're playing the victim card all over again 🙄. meanwhile, pretti's family gets no justice - no apologies, no restitution... just a bunch of empty promises from an agency that clearly doesn't care about its own people 👎.

anyway, i think we need some serious changes around here... maybe some laws to limit the use of force by these agencies and require them to be more transparent. something's gotta change 💪

I'm so tired of these big agencies always dragging their feet on sharing info 🙄. Like, what's up with CBP sending Congress this half-baked report instead of being straight about it? It's not like they're hiding something scandalous or anything... but still, a little transparency would be nice 💯. And can we please get some answers about that shooting? Two whistling women trying to help someone and suddenly everyone's all "gun went off accidentally"? 🤔 Come on, folks! Let's see some facts and figures here instead of speculation 😒.

it's so messed up that they're dragging their feet on this investigation 🙄. like, what are they hiding? i'm all for holding people accountable, but if someone's life is lost, we deserve answers ASAP 💔. and honestly, it's pretty sketchy that the report is basically a bunch of evasions and not much else 🤷‍♀️. some lawmakers wanna make sure these kinds of incidents don't happen in the future, and i'm totally down for that 🙌. let's get to the bottom of this and make sure we're treating our citizens with respect and dignity 💖.

I'm getting really frustrated with these CBP agents 🙄. I mean, who pushes two people away from someone they're trying to help? It's just not right. And now they're dodging questions like this is some kind of game 🤔. The fact that they sent Congress a report that was basically full of holes just shows how out of touch they are with the public. We deserve answers, especially after something as tragic as this happened 💔. I'm all for them having protocols in place to handle difficult situations, but when you're dealing with people's lives, you need to be able to explain what went down and take responsibility 🤷‍♀️. It's just common sense.

the whole thing just feels super fishy 🤔... like cbp is trying to sweep this under the rug. they're dodging questions left and right about what really happened on that day. it's not like they're gonna provide any real answers or accountability, that's for sure. i mean, who tries to push people away with a whistle? it sounds like a pretty flimsy excuse for using force. and now we've got lawmakers trying to limit the use of force by dhs agents? about time, if you ask me 🙌. but what really gets my goat is how this incident fits into the bigger picture of government agencies using their powers to silence critics and intimidate communities. it's just not right.

I'm really disturbed by this whole thing... Those CBP agents need to be held accountable for what happened to Alex Pretti 🙏. It's not right that they're dodging questions and evading answers about how it all went down. I mean, come on, if you're gonna do something like shoot someone, you gotta own up to it and explain why... The fact that they're trying to deflect blame and silence critics is just plain unsettling 🤕. We need more transparency from these agencies, not less.

I'm just not buying into this whole "government agencies are intimidated by critics" thing 🙄. The CBP officers were in a situation where two civilians were blowing whistles at them, trying to get out of the way... sounds pretty standard crazy fan situation to me 😅. I mean, you can't expect people to remain calm when they're being blown at by some dude with a megaphone.

And yeah, it's a shame that CBP couldn't be more transparent about what happened, but blaming the whole Trump era for this is just too broad 🤷‍♂️. We need more specific answers and less finger-pointing. I'm all for accountability, but let's not make assumptions here.

It's also kinda weird that they had their own questionnaire ready to go, only to send Congress some super vague responses instead 📝. That just seems like a waste of time and resources to me. Can't we just get the facts straight for once? 🤔

OMG u guys, this is getting super sketchy 🤯! The US CBP agents are literally killing people on the spot & they're not even giving us any real answers about it... I mean what's the point of even having an investigation if they're just gonna give you generic answers that don't make sense? 😒 Like, yeah sure, two females blowing whistles were a threat but come on who does that in real life?! 🤷‍♀️ The fact that they're deflecting all responsibility & blaming other agencies is getting old... we need to see some real accountability here ASAP 💯

I'm super frustrated with this whole situation 🤬. I mean, who gets shot by CBP agents for blowing whistles at them? It's just crazy. And now they're trying to cover it up like nothing happened? That's not right. I think it's totally understandable that the family of Alex Pretti wants answers and transparency about what really went down.

I'm also kinda worried about this whole trend of government agencies silencing critics with intimidation tactics. It's like, we're supposed to be a democracy, not a dictatorship 🙅‍♂️. I think it's time for some real accountability from CBP and the rest of DHS. If they can't provide clear answers, then maybe they shouldn't have their guns. Simple as that.

And can we talk about how weird it is that CBP sent Congress all these evasive responses instead of answering the questions themselves? Like, what are they really hiding? It's not like it's gonna solve anything to just sweep it under the rug 🚮. I hope some lawmakers really do introduce some legislation to hold them accountable...

omg did u hear abt that cop who killed alex pretti in minneapolis?? like what r they even hiding?? 🤦‍♂️ they tried 2 cover it up by sendin a report 2 congress but it was all evasive lol. i mean cant we just get the truth for once?? 🙄 and btw has anyone seen that report from The Intercept? 📰 apparently the cop pushed alex away 1st and then he got shot i dont no wut to say 🤷‍♂️

btw have u heard about the new bill in congress 2 limit use of force by DHS agents?? 📝 sounds like a good idea 2 me lol. they r tryna make it harder 4 agencies 2 intimidate ppl who speak out 🗣️

Wow! 🤯 So CBP is dodgy like? Sending questions back instead of giving answers to Congress seems super fishy. And they're deflecting blame by saying they defer to other agencies... that's just a fancy way of saying they don't want to take responsibility for their own actions. And the fact that they're not providing any concrete evidence about what really happened is super suspicious. I'm all for transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to law enforcement and government agencies. We need to make sure they're being held accountable for their actions, not sweeping things under the rug. 💥

😕 I cant believe this is still happening in 2025, like how many times do we gotta see the same pattern of police brutality & cover ups? 🚔👮‍♂️ This Alex Pretti guy was just trying to help out and get some attention when he got caught up in that whole mess. And now CBP is all like "we're not saying anything" 🤐, it's so frustrating. In my day (like back in 2010), we thought for sure that police would at least try to figure out what happened after someone got shot or killed. But I guess that's just the way things are now 🙄. The Intercept report is like a punch in the gut tho, all these claims of "intimidation" and "silencing critics"... it sounds like we're living in some dystopian novel 📚. Can't we just get real answers for once?

🤔 I'm not surprised by this at all... I mean, have you seen how much the CBP's been expanding lately? They're always pushing for more power, but what about accountability when things go wrong? 🚨 This whole thing stinks like a rat trap. If they were so worried about their own safety, why did they even push those two civilians away in the first place? 🤷‍♂️ And now we get a report that's basically a bunch of evasive answers? It's like they're trying to hide something... or who knows, maybe they really are trying to cover up what happened. 🤑 The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that our government agencies are just too powerful and have too much to lose when things don't go according to plan. We need some real transparency here, not just a bunch of PR spin! 👀

I'm so worried about this CBP thingy... it feels like they're just dodging answers 🤔. I mean, I remember when my dad was in the military and he had to follow protocol, but at least there were consequences if someone broke the rules. Now, it seems like they can just push people away and not have to deal with anything 😬. And this Alex Pretti guy... poor dude's life was taken over something as simple as a whistle blow 🎺. It's just so frustrating when you think about all the what-ifs... what if that whistle had been heard? What if those CBP agents had just let him go? 🤷‍♂️ I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this whole thing plays out, but for now, it feels like justice is being served by whoever's silencing the truth 🔇.

OMG, this is like something outta a bad cop show 📺! Like, who pushes two civilians into a struggle that results in someone getting shot? 🤯 And then CBP's all like "Nah, it was just a misunderstanding" 😒. Can we get a "What really happened?" emoji reaction to this story already? 🤔 And btw, does anyone know if Alex Pretti had a killer playlist? 😉🎶

This latest exposé on CBP's handling of Alex Pretti's fatal shooting is a stark reminder of the need for transparency and accountability in our law enforcement systems 🚨. The agency's evasive responses and refusal to provide concrete evidence have only served to fuel speculation and raise more questions than answers about the circumstances surrounding Pretti's death. It's particularly concerning that CBP would defer to other agencies in answering its own actions, effectively shielding itself from scrutiny. The fact that lawmakers are now pushing for legislation to limit the use of force by DHS agents is a step in the right direction, but it's essential that we continue to push for greater transparency and a more nuanced understanding of these incidents. The Intercept report serves as a timely reminder that our institutions must be held to high standards of accountability, lest we risk perpetuating a culture of fear and intimidation 🤝.
