Report: Eagles interview Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka for open offensive coordinator job

The Philadelphia Eagles have extended their search for a new offensive coordinator by interviewing New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka. According to ESPN, Kafka is the front-runner for the vacant position after impressing team officials with his experience and coaching background.

A former quarterback drafted by the Eagles in 2010, Kafka has bounced around several teams before landing his first full-time coaching gig as quarterbacks coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. During his tenure with the Chiefs, he helped Patrick Mahomes win an MVP award in 2021, a season that saw the young quarterback throw for 50 touchdowns.

Kafka's most recent stint was as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach with the Giants, where he struggled to elevate the team's offense. The Giants ranked 15th in points scored and 18th in yards per game in 2022, 30th in both categories last season, and 17th this year.

Despite these underwhelming numbers, Kafka was able to navigate the complexities of Brian Daboll's offense before being promoted to interim head coach after Daboll's dismissal mid-season. His tenure at the helm saw a lackluster 2-5 record, with both wins coming against non-contenders.

Kafka is now being considered as a candidate for the Eagles' open offensive coordinator job, bringing his unique blend of quarterback experience and coaching acumen to the table. If successful, he would be returning to the franchise that drafted him in 2010.

Idk if Mike Kafka is really the right fit for Philly's offense ๐Ÿค”... I mean, he did do well with Mahomes, but his gig with the Giants was super underwhelming ๐Ÿ“‰. He went from helping a superstar QB to being stuck with Daniel Jones, and it showed in the numbers. Still, you gotta give him some credit for adapting to Brian Daboll's system before taking over as interim head coach. The Eagles need someone who can bring stability and success to their offense, but I'm not convinced Kafka is that guy ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... Guess we'll see how things play out with him at the helm ๐Ÿ˜

idk about this new guy Mike Kafka, seems like he's got some great credentials but his teams haven't exactly been on fire under his lead ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿˆ. I mean, 2-5 record isn't exactly impressive and the Giants had a pretty mediocre season too ๐Ÿ“‰๐Ÿ‘Ž. still, Eagles fans might see something in him that no one else does? maybe it's his QB experience or coaching background... but can he turn things around for Philly? ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ†

This is just like when Donovan McNabb used to play for the Eagles, they're always looking for a new QB coach or OC... I remember back then, Andy Reid was still with the team and we won some awesome games under his leadership ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyway, Mike Kafka seems like a solid candidate, but I'm not sure if he's ready for this kind of role just yet... I mean, 2-5 record as interim head coach is nothing to laugh about ๐Ÿค”. He did have that good stint with the Chiefs though, helping Patrick Mahomes win MVP... still, you can't help but wonder how things will go if he takes over the Eagles' offense ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

๐Ÿค” so i think the eagles are taking a bit of a risk by interviewing kafka, right? like, they need an offensive coordinator who can actually improve their scoring and yards per game, but what if kafka just brought his old team's struggles to philly? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ he did have some success with mahomes and the chiefs, but that was a long time ago... and now he's struggling with the giants. maybe its all about finding the right system for him to thrive in? ๐Ÿ“

๐Ÿค” just thinking about Mike Kafka's background makes me want to format everything around him lol ๐Ÿ“Š so here's the deal with this whole thing - I mean, on the surface it sounds like he's got some solid credentials, all that experience as a QB and then coaching gigs in KC and NY... but honestly, his numbers with the Giants have been pretty underwhelming ๐Ÿ“ˆ 2-5 record as interim HC? that's not exactly what you want to be known for ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ still, I guess if he can bring some of that magic back to Philly, it could be interesting ๐Ÿ‘€ but let's see how they format the whole coaching staff and offense... is there a system in place or are they just gonna wing it? ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿค” The Philly Eagles are crazy if they think Mike Kafka is their man... I mean, I've got nothing against the guy but his track record with the Giants just isn't inspiring. 2-5 as interim head coach? Yikes! ๐Ÿšจ And don't even get me started on the Giants' offense last season... it's like they're trying to be bad again ๐Ÿ˜’. That being said, Kafka did have some great moments in KC and working with Patrick Mahomes can't hurt his rep. Still gotta wonder if he's the right fit for Philly's offense... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think this is a big opportunity for Mike Kafka to get back on track - the Giants offense was really struggling last season so I'm not surprised they're looking for a change ๐Ÿค”. On the other hand, the Eagles have had some major issues with their offense lately too, so maybe Kafka can bring some much-needed stability and expertise to Philly ๐Ÿ’ช. It's interesting that he has experience working with Patrick Mahomes, who is basically a once-in-a-generation talent - can Kafka help develop other QBs on the team? โš–๏ธ

The NFL coaching carousel is always fascinating to watch ๐Ÿ˜Š! I think Mike Kafka's candidacy for the Eagles' OC position is interesting, but also a bit puzzling ๐Ÿค”. On one hand, his experience as a quarterback and playing history with the team can't be understated - he's been in their shoes, so to speak ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ. And his stint as QBs coach for the Chiefs was super successful, helping Patrick Mahomes win that MVP award in 2021 ๐Ÿ’ช.

On the other hand, his tenure as OC with the Giants didn't exactly set the world on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. The numbers just aren't great, and I'm not sure how much of that can be attributed to him specifically ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. But hey, maybe he's due for a change of scenery? And being an interim head coach with the Giants shows he's able to adapt and lead in tough situations ๐Ÿ’ผ.

Ultimately, I think Kafka's unique blend of experience and coaching chops could make him a great fit for the Eagles' OC job ๐Ÿคž. He might just bring some fresh ideas and energy to the position ๐Ÿ‘.

๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ก just thought about mike kafka's journey ๐Ÿ”„ from QB to coach it's like he got the ๐Ÿ’ช boost he needed to take on bigger roles ๐Ÿ‘ but maybe the giants' system wasn't meant for him ๐Ÿค” still, he's got the skills & experience to turn things around with the eagles ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ who knows, maybe he'll be able to bring some magic ๐Ÿ”ฎ to the philly offense ๐Ÿ’ฅ
