Electric Ambulances Are Rolling into Hollywood: Rivian Partners with Grey's Anatomy
In a bid to promote its electric vehicles, Rivian has teamed up with the hit TV series Grey's Anatomy to create a custom electric ambulance. The vehicle, dubbed the "vanbulance," is a modified version of Rivian's Commercial Van and serves two purposes: reducing on-set exhaust fumes and weaving environmental sustainability into the storyline.
The vanbulance features several production-specific modifications, including removable walls and roof panels, allowing cameras to capture desired interior shots without compromising safety. The vehicle also boasts double doors instead of a traditional roll-up door and includes custom lighting, an exterior wrap with "Seattle Emergency Response Services," and a side entry to the cargo area.
Rivian consulted with real-life emergency services, including the Huntington Beach Fire Department and Los Angeles Fire Department, to ensure that the interior layout met first responders' needs. Their input proved invaluable in crafting a vehicle that is both functional and visually appealing.
Grey's Anatomy recently debuted its electric ambulance in a November 13 episode, but it was given more prominence in Thursday's broadcast, prompting Rivian to highlight the partnership this week. The collaboration showcases Hollywood's growing commitment to electric vehicles, even if the real-world transition seems stalled at present.
