Russian strike on Ukraine’s Kyiv leaves 1,700 buildings still without heat, mayor says

Kyiv Suffers Devastating Blow: Thousands Left Without Heat Amid Ongoing Russian Missile Campaign

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv has been hit by a massive Russian missile and drone attack, leaving around 1,700 apartment buildings without heat in sub-zero temperatures. The assault, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in thousands of properties losing power nationwide, exacerbating the city's already dire energy crisis.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, more than 3,200 buildings were initially without heating after the attack, but over 1,600 have since been restored. However, an additional 700 units remain without heat, further straining the city's infrastructure. The situation is particularly dire during Ukraine's winter months, when temperatures often drop below freezing.

Russia has intensified its bombardment of Ukraine's energy system since its invasion in 2022, targeting critical infrastructure and residential buildings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that every massive attack poses a devastating impact on the country, emphasizing the need for collective action to strengthen Ukraine.

The scale of Russia's aggression is staggering, with over 1,700 attack drones, 1,380 guided aerial bombs, and 69 missiles launched on Ukraine in just one week. Zelensky visited Lithuania on Sunday, meeting with leaders to discuss ways to bolster Ukraine's resilience against Russian attacks.

Kyiv residents have been forced to adapt to the ongoing crisis, using makeshift heating sources such as bonfires and BBQs to stay warm during power outages. The situation is being felt by all, with Ukrainian first responders battling fires at the sites of Russian strikes and civilians dancing around fires in a desperate bid to stay warm.

As negotiations between Ukrainian, Russian, and American officials continue in Abu Dhabi, Ukraine's plight serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of this ongoing conflict. With thousands still without heat, Kyiv remains a city on edge, its residents struggling to survive in a country under siege by Russia's relentless assault.

Ugh, can't believe the forum's still down for hours 🙄😡. Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah, Ukraine. This is so not okay. 1,700 buildings without heat? That's like, a nightmare come true in -20°C temps. And people are actually having to start bonfires and BBQs just to stay warm... what even is that?! 🤯 It's insane.

I mean, I get it, Russia's been bombing Ukraine non-stop for years now, but can't they just stop already? The human cost of this conflict is just so high. Thousands without heat, fires everywhere, people having to dance around bonfires just to stay warm... it's like something out of a horror movie.

And don't even get me started on the power outages. Like, how are people supposed to live like that?! 🤷‍♂️ It's not just the physical danger that's so bad, it's the emotional toll too. People must be so scared and anxious all the time. 😕

omg this is so sad 🤕 what can they do now? it's like russia just wants to make ukraine suffer in the cold ❄️ how did they not prepare for these kinds of attacks? and what about the power grid? is it really that weak? i feel bad for the ppl who lost heat in their homes. can't we just get together as a world and stop this war already 🙏 are they gonna do anything to help ukraine with its energy crisis or is it all just talk 💬

this is getting outta hand 🤯 i mean, 1,700 buildings without heat? that's just crazy! what's the point of even having a government if they can't keep the heat on for people? it's not like it's some minor inconvenience, it's life or death stuff here. i feel so bad for these ppl, dancing around fires in the middle of winter... and don't even get me started on the first responders who have to deal with all this. they're the real heroes here 🙏

🤕 I can barely imagine how scary it must be for those Ukrainian ppl right now. They're literally fighting for their basic human rights like heat and warmth in their homes. It's insane that 1,700 buildings are still without heat & ppl r having to use bonfires just to stay alive 🍂💥 We gotta keep our fingers crossed that these negotiations work out & some peace comes through ASAP. Sending lots of love & positive vibes to all the Ukrainian ppl 🌈💖

Ugh I'm so sorry to hear that people are struggling like this 🤕. The scale of the missile attacks is just insane... 1700+ drones and missiles?! It's like they're trying to freeze the whole city out 🥶. How are people supposed to cope with that? Using bonfires and BBQs as heat sources? That's just crazy talk 😂. I feel for the Ukrainian first responders, they must be doing an insane amount of work to deal with all this. And what about the mental health impact? It's been months since Russia invaded... it feels like we're never going to see peace 🙏.

OMG 🤯 this is like soooo heartbreaking! 1700 apartments without heat?? 😩 what kinda situation is that?! The thought of ppl living w/o heat in sub zero temps is literally insane! 🤪 and it's not just the ppl but the first responders too fighting fires from russian strikes..😕 ukraine is goin thru so much rn... 💔

Ugh 🤕...this is just getting out of hand. Can you believe 700 apartments are still without heat? It's like, basic human needs are being ignored here. And it's not just the buildings, the power grid is all messed up too. I mean, what's the point of having a war if you're gonna leave people to freeze in their homes? 🚨It's not just Ukraine that's suffering either, the whole world is paying attention and it's getting really uncomfortable for everyone involved. The US and Russia are trying to negotiate or whatever, but from where I'm sitting, it feels like everyone's just trying to figure out how to make a profit off this mess 🤑

😕 I'm really worried about those 700 units left without heat in Kyiv. It's absolutely crazy that they had to resort to bonfires and BBQs to stay warm during power outages. The scale of the Russian missile campaign is just insane, with over 1,700 attack drones launched on Ukraine in just one week 🚀. I feel for the Ukrainian people, having to deal with this ongoing crisis and struggling to survive. It's a stark reminder that there are real humans behind all the headlines 🌎. We should definitely be doing more to support Ukraine during this difficult time 💕.

OMG, can you even imagine having to use bonfires and BBQs as heating sources during power outages?! 🤯🔥 It's like something straight out of a survival movie. The situation in Kyiv is just devastating, and I'm seriously worried about the people there who are struggling to stay warm in sub-zero temps. 1,700 buildings without heat? That's crazy! 😱 And it's not just the physical health that's at risk, but also mental well-being... I mean, dancing around fires to stay warm? 🤣 It's like they're all just trying to make the best of a bad situation.

I'm keeping an eye on these negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the US. Fingers crossed that something concrete happens soon to help alleviate this crisis. But in the meantime, I hope those Kyiv residents can stay safe and warm... they must be going through so much 💕🇺🇦

🚨💔 just read that 700 more buildings in kyiv are still without heat after the russian missile attack... imagine having to light up a bonfire in your own home because you can't afford electricity 🍗😓 and then there's the fires from the power outages too... it's like, what even is this? all that fighting and dying for what exactly? so many innocent ppl suffering 💀 meanwhile, these diplomats are probably sipping tea over dinner in abu dhabi... just not right 😒
