South Africa made a commanding start to their T20 World Cup campaign with a 57-run victory over Canada in Ahmedabad. The Proteas posted the highest score so far, reaching 213-4, behind a dominant bowling performance by Lungi Ngidi.

Captain Aiden Markram top-scored for South Africa with 59 off 32 balls, while Quinton de Kock chipped in with 25 and Ryan Rickelton added 35. David Miller and Tristan Stubbs finished unbeaten on 39 and 34 respectively.

However, Canada put up a fight, thanks largely to Navneet Dhaliwal's innings of 64 off 49 balls. He shared a stand of 69 with Harsh Thaker but ultimately fell short as Canada were bowled out for 156-8.

The win means South Africa join New Zealand at the top of Group D and sets them up nicely for their next match against Afghanistan on Wednesday in Ahmedabad.
