"Tell Me Lies" EP says fan reactions drove her to write a specific storyline for season three

Season three of "Tell Me Lies" has arrived, bringing with it a plethora of surprises that will leave fans reeling. Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer reveals that the team was driven by fan feedback to craft a specific storyline for season three, with Lucy's character being at the forefront of this endeavor.

Lucy's arc takes center stage as she navigates her complicated relationship with Stephen, one of the show's most complex characters. Grace Van Patten plays Lucy, who is initially hopeful that things will be different this time around but quickly realizes that her past mistakes are repeating themselves.

The decision to punish Lucy for her actions was largely influenced by fan commentary, which Oppenheimer believes highlights a disturbing trend of societal expectations on women. "I hear a lot of people say 'she's as bad as Stephen,' which I think is just baffling to me," she explains. "We're writing the show to make you ask yourselves at the end of the season if you feel okay with that, you know? How do you actually feel that you were so hard on this girl?"

Meanwhile, Bree, played by Cat Missal, finds herself entangled in a web of relationships and friendships that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. There are hints of a romantic connection between Bree and Alex, who is played by Costa D'Angelo, adding another layer to her tumultuous life.

Oppenheimer also notes that fans were equally harsh on Bree last season during her relationship with Oliver, highlighting the tendency for audiences to unfairly judge women in positions of vulnerability. "People were like 'oh, she knew what she was doing,' I was like 'She was 19!'", Oppenheimer recalls.

As for the rest of the gang, Wrigley finds himself on a redemption arc that will surprise fans. Spencer House reveals that playing this character has allowed him to tap into a more hopeful side of his personality.

Throughout the season, expect plenty of shocking moments and stunning revelations that will leave you questioning everything. Oppenheimer's advice for viewers? Put your phones away, put social media aside, and simply watch. "I think a lot happens that is not spoken, that are a little... you know, looks between characters that end up being big clues to things," she warns.

With all the twists and turns, season three of "Tell Me Lies" promises to be an unforgettable ride. Mark your calendars for January 13th on Hulu and Disney+, as the entire cast prepares to deliver some truly shocking performances.

idk why ppl think its cool 2 punish lucy 4 her mistakes she's a human bing not perfect her flaws r what make her relatable πŸ€” i mean, steve's character is literally toxic but fans are still trashin' lucy i dont get it, ppl need 2 chill n watch the show without bringin in external expectations πŸ“Ί the whole thing about fans bein harsh on bree last season got me thinkin, maybe we should be more empathetic towards women who r just tryin 2 navigate life πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

omg u guys i'm SOOO excited for season 3 of tell me lies!! i love how they're incorporating fan feedback into the storyline, it's like they really care about what we want! 🀩 lucy's arc is going to be so emotional, i can already imagine myself getting all teary-eyed 😭 and omg bree & alex's romance is giving me LIFE πŸ’˜ cant wait for wrigley's redemption arc too, spencer house is going to bring so much depth to that character! 🀯 and trust me when meaghan oppenheimer says put ur phones away, u won't wanna miss any of the shocking moments πŸ˜±πŸ“Ί

πŸ€” I gotta say, I love how they're actually listening to fan feedback this time around. Like, seriously, who hasn't judged Lucy way too harshly at some point? It's like, girl, we've all made those mistakes and then regretted them later. It's about time we start giving women a break for being human.

And can we talk about Bree's love life? Alex and Bree, I'm so here for it! It's about time someone showed some love to our girl who's always getting the short end of the stick.

But what really gets me is how they're tackling the whole expectation thing. Like, yeah, women are expected to be perfect all the time, but newsflash: nobody's perfect! We make mistakes and we learn from them. It's time we start giving women some slack for being human.

And let's not forget Wrigley's redemption arc... I'm low-key excited to see where this goes. It's always cool when characters get a chance to show us their vulnerable side.

Oh, and Oppenheimer's advice to put away our phones? Preach! Sometimes the best moments are right in front of you, just waiting to happen if you're paying attention. πŸ’‘

🚨 gotta say, I'm loving how they're pushing Lucy's character this time around. I mean, she's already got enough drama going on with Stephen, but now it feels like the whole world is judging her for past mistakes 🀯. It's like, hello, women make mistakes too! And can we please stop shaming them for it? I'm so here for Lucy's arc and I think the show is doing a great job of making us question our own reactions to her situation πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

And btw, Bree's storyline sounds super juicy 🍯. I love how they're not holding back on her either - last season was already a hot mess, but this time it feels like she's really going to get her comeuppance πŸ‘€. But you know what would be even better? If they explored some of the guys' emotions for once... Alex and Bree are giving me major vibes πŸ’˜.

And I'm so glad Spencer House is getting a redemption arc 🌟. He was always my fave character, and I think it's time he got his due. The whole show feels like it's building up to something huge, and I am HERE. FOR. IT πŸ”₯

omg i'm so hyped for season 3 of Tell Me Lies!!! 🀩 meaghan oppenheimer is a genius πŸ’― she's like totally listening to fan feedback and making it happen πŸ’– lucy's storyline is going to be SO complicated and i am here for it πŸ’β€β™€οΈ and can we talk about how unfairly women are judged on tv?? it's like, hello we're human too!! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ anyway i need to get my phone away from my couch ASAP because i don't want to spoil anything πŸ˜‚ cant wait to see what all the drama brings! πŸ‘€

OMG you guys I just watched ep 1 of season 3 of Tell Me Lies 🀯 it's so dramatic! I was lowkey shipping Lucy and Stephen last season but now I'm like no way girl, her mistakes are coming back to haunt her πŸ˜‚ and I love how the creator is calling out the haters who always blame women for their own s**t. Like I get that it's supposed to be a commentary on societal expectations but come on, can't we just give these ladies some respect? πŸ™„ anyway, Bree's love life is getting messy and I am SO here for Wrigley's redemption arc πŸ’– gotta see what other tea season 3 has in store...

omg u gotta watch season 3 of "tell me lies" its gonna be a wild ride! so i was reading about how they got feedback from fans on what they wanted Lucy's storyline to be and it's pretty interesting... apparently people were like "she deserves what she gets" because of her past mistakes which is just crazy to me. creator Meaghan Oppenheimer said that it highlights this weird societal expectation on women where people get so harsh with them when they make mistakes. idk about you but i think its a big deal we should be asking ourselves how we'd feel if we were in Lucy's shoes πŸ€”

and btw, Bree's storyline is looking even more complicated now! there's this hint of a romance between her and Alex which could get juicy. also Wrigley's got a redemption arc that's gonna surprise fans... can't wait to see how it all plays out! πŸ’‘

Ugh, can we talk about how frustrating it is to watch a show like this with all these ads scattered throughout? I mean, come on, can't they just let us binge-watch in peace? πŸ™„ And don't even get me started on the navigation of this forum, it's like they're trying to make our lives harder than necessary. Can we please just have a decent search function or something?! 😩 Anyway, back to "Tell Me Lies"... I'm not really sure what the big deal is about season three, but if Lucy's character arc is the focus then I guess it could be interesting... I've heard mixed reviews from friends and I don't know if I'm sold on it yet. At least the cast seems talented, right? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ And honestly, who doesn't love a good cat video every now and then to break up the monotony of all these ads?! 🐈

I'm so here for season 3 of "Tell Me Lies" 🀩! The way the creators are tackling those deep societal issues is just, like, so needed right now. I mean, it's wild how fans can be so quick to judge these complex women, you know? Like, Lucy and Bree - they're human, they make mistakes, they grow... what more do we want? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

And the way Oppenheimer is using fan feedback to shape the storyline is genius. It's like, the creators are having a convo with the audience and going, "Hey, y'all might have some beef with these characters, but let's see how they grow from it." πŸ‘€

I'm also low-key excited for Wrigley's redemption arc - I love when shows give you those hopeful moments. And that hint of Bree and Alex's connection? Sshh, don't tell me anything! 😏

One thing I am a little concerned about is how some fans might react to the season 3 drama... like, remember that time we all got obsessed with a fictional show for months? πŸ“Ί Yep, I'm talking about you, #TML Fans. Just chill, put your phones away, and let the story unfold! πŸ˜‚

πŸ€” I think this whole thing about fans being harsh on Lucy and Bree is a great example of how we need better representation in our media, especially when it comes to women's lives πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. It's like, just because someone makes a mistake doesn't mean they're inherently bad people. We gotta start questioning these societal expectations that put pressure on women to be perfect all the time πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

And can we talk about how this is exactly what our politicians are doing to women's rights? They're always piling on the blame and shame, without actually addressing the root issues πŸ’”. It's like, let's have a conversation about how we can support each other, rather than tearing each other down πŸ’¬.

I'm also loving that Lucy's character is at the center of this storyline 🀩. We need more complex, flawed characters in our media, because that's what real life is all about πŸ’―. And I love that Meaghan Oppenheimer is pushing back against these societal expectations by giving her characters agency and autonomy πŸ™Œ.

Overall, I'm super excited for season three of "Tell Me Lies" πŸŽ‰. It's going to be a wild ride, but I think we can all learn a thing or two from Lucy and Bree's experiences πŸ’.

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda wild how the show's creators were like, driven by fan feedback to make Lucy's arc even more complicated. Like, can't we just have one character without all these drama-filled relationships and mistakes from their past? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ It also got me thinking about how we judge women on TV, especially when they're in vulnerable positions, and it's always the same thing: 'oh she knew what she was doing'. I mean, can't we just give them some actual agency for once? πŸ™„ The whole show seems to be playing with our expectations and making us question everything, which is kinda cool but also super frustrating. Like, put your phones away and watch without thinking about it too much, right? 😬

OMG 🀯 I am SOOOO hyped for season 3 of Tell Me Lies!!! πŸŽ‰ I mean, can you even handle how intense Lucy's storyline is gonna be? πŸ’β€β™€οΈ She's like, the ultimate complex character and I'm HERE. FOR. IT! 😍 And I love that Meaghan Oppenheimer listened to fan feedback and made Bree a more vulnerable character... it's so refreshing to see women being portrayed as humans with flaws instead of just perfect roles. πŸ’– Plus, Costa D'Angelo is back and I ship Bree & Alex SO HARD!!! πŸš€ January 13th can't come soon enough! 🀩

OMG, I am SO stoked for season 3 of "Tell Me Lies" 🀯! The fact that creator Meaghan Oppenheimer listened to fan feedback and crafted a storyline with Lucy's character at the forefront is giving me LIFE πŸ’β€β™€οΈ! But, can we talk about how messed up it is when fans judge women who've done wrong? Like, 'she's as bad as Stephen'?? No, girl, you're not! πŸ˜‚ It's all about holding people accountable for their actions, but also being mindful of the impact our words and actions have on others.

And, can we please give some love to Bree? πŸ€— She's got so much going on in her life, and I'm literally on the edge of my seat thinking about what's gonna happen with Alex. And, Wrigley's redemption arc is giving me all the feels 😍! It's like, we've all been there, right?

I love how Oppenheimer warns us to put our phones away and not get too caught up in social media – sometimes it's just better to live in the moment, you know? πŸ’– Anyway, I'm super excited for this season and can't wait to dive back into the world of "Tell Me Lies". Mark my words, January 13th is gonna be a wild ride! πŸŽ₯

omg u guys i just finished watching ep1 of season 3 of tell me lies and idk what's going on but Lucy's storyline is SO intense 🀯 she's literally back with stephen again and it's like wow i feel bad for her but also kinda dont wanna root for her lol. and can we talk about how fans were super harsh on bree last season lol i was like same girl, i get it u were 19 but still πŸ™„ cant wait to see what happens next btw has anyone else noticed the whole punishment thing is kinda messed up?

🀯 I'm loving how season 3 is already leaving fans speechless! 😱 The way they're tackling those tough topics like societal expectations on women... it's like, can't we just have a nuanced discussion instead of shaming the girl for her mistakes? πŸ™„ And omg Bree's storyline is giving me LIFE! πŸ’β€β™€οΈ I'm low-key shipping Alex and Bree together too πŸ€— And Lucy's arc is so intense, I feel like I need some time to process everything 😩 What's up with Stephen's character tho? So complicated! πŸ”₯

Season 3 of Tell Me Lies is looking so intense 😬! I love how they're addressing those societal expectations on women, it's like, Lucy's not that bad, you know? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Oppenheimer's point about fans being harsh on Bree last season was so true, people can be pretty unfair when it comes to judging women who are just trying to navigate their lives.

And Wrigley's redemption arc is gonna be lit πŸ”₯! I'm also curious to see what happens with Bree and Alex's possible romance. The web of relationships and friendships in that show always keeps me on the edge of my seat 🀯.

But for real, can we talk about how much I hate it when fans try to pit people against each other? "She's as bad as Stephen" ugh, get over yourself πŸ‘Ž. Tell Me Lies is all about complex characters and messy relationships, and I am HERE FOR IT πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

I'm so down for season 3, January 13th can't come soon enough πŸŽ‰!

I'm not buying it πŸ€”. So Lucy's character is now being punished for her actions because of fan feedback, but what about when fans called out Bree last season? It's like, consistency is key here... or are we just supposed to turn a blind eye whenever the plot gets messy? And btw, where's the source on this "disturbing trend" of societal expectations on women? I need to see some proof before I start jumping off the bandwagon πŸ“š.

OMG 🀯 I'm so excited for season 3 of Tell Me Lies!!! πŸ“Ί I feel like Lucy's storyline is going to be so intense, exploring that complicated relationship with Stephen is going to be wild 😬. And can we talk about how fans are always quick to judge these characters, especially the women? It's crazy how harshly they're expected to behave πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking... what if Lucy isn't as bad as she seems? πŸ€”

I love that Oppenheimer is using fan feedback to create a specific storyline, it shows how engaged the fans are with the show! πŸ’– But at the same time, it's also making us think about societal expectations on women, which I think is really important πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

And can't wait for Bree and Alex's romantic connection to add another layer to her story πŸ’Œ! The rest of the gang sounds like they're in for a wild ride too πŸ˜…. January 13th can't come soon enough! πŸŽ‰

πŸ”₯ I'm so hyped for Season 3 of Tell Me Lies! πŸŽ‰ It's like, creators took fan feedback to heart and now we get to see Lucy's character go through some major growth πŸ’ͺ. And btw, can we talk about how unfair it is when people say "she's just as bad as Stephen"? Like, come on, that's not fair to Lucy at all 😑. I love how the show's creator is trying to make us question our own reactions to these characters' actions πŸ‘€. And Bree's storyline sounds SO juicy! πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Can't wait for January 13th and the whole cast delivering some epic performances 🎬
