The Trump administration’s unchecked abuses in Minnesota

A US citizen was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis after being pepper-sprayed, beaten, and forced onto his knees. Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, had been observing agents' actions when he was confronted. The incident is the third shooting by immigration agents in the area this year.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents have been involved in a series of abuses in Minnesota since an early January crackdown began. These incidents include the use of chemical crowd control, brutality against protesters, bystanders, and immigrants, as well as baseless arrests and detentions.

A recent case drew attention when ICE agents violently detained two Target employees, including one who was left injured after being dragged from their car. Another incident involved a Venezuelan man being shot in the leg by ICE agents despite not being their target. A third person, ChongLy "Scott" Thao, was detained at gunpoint and taken to Texas while wearing only his underwear.

The pattern of abuse is part of a broader issue with ICE's actions in Minneapolis, where they are increasingly violating the Fourth Amendment. According to an internal memo, ICE can enter homes without judicial approval. The department has also targeted children, including a 5-year-old boy who was used as "bait" to detain others.

As Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, "How many more residents, how many more Americans need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end?" However, it appears the Trump administration is not taking these incidents seriously.

🚫🤬 Can't believe what's goin' down in Minneapolis. ICE and CBP agents are basically lawless. Using pepper spray and beatin' people up? That's just sick. And now this guy gets shot and killed? It's like they're above the law or somethin'. 🤷‍♂️ This isn't right, not even close. The fact that they can just walk in on someone's house without a warrant is messed up. What's next? No knock doors anymore? 🚪

omg 😱 this is so messed up!!! i mean i know border control can't be easy but shooting and pepper spraying someone who's just observing?? that's wild lol no way that's crazy talk 🤯 like what even is going on here? i read about all these other incidents where ice agents are being super rough with ppl and it's getting out of hand. i feel so bad for alex pretti's fam. did they even get any justice? i hope he got the best treatment possible 💔 but this whole thing just makes me wanna scream why r theynt taking responsibility for these agents?? 🤦‍♀️

I'm totally f'd up by this news 🤯... like, a US citizen gets shot and killed after being pepper-sprayed and beaten? That's just insane! I need some info on what exactly happened before that pepper spray was used, though. Was there even a verbal warning or something?

And another thing, why is ICE still operating without proper oversight in Minneapolis? I mean, we know they've been doing this for years now... isn't it time for Congress to take action? And what's up with the Fourth Amendment being basically ignored here? I'm all about due process and protecting our rights.

I also need some context on these other incidents you mentioned - like, why are ICE agents using chemical crowd control so recklessly? Are they even following their own guidelines or protocols?

Can we get more info from credible sources on this? Like, is there a paper trail somewhere that shows the Trump admin knows about these abuses but just doesn't care?

😡 This is literally insane... I mean, what kind of sick humans get paid to do this? To pepper spray someone and then shoot them in the back because they were just observing?! It's like something out of a bad movie. And don't even get me started on these agencies' blatant disregard for the law. Like, no one is held accountable when you're dealing with ICE agents! They're above the law or something... it's terrifying to think about what else they might be doing behind closed doors.

And can we talk about the fact that there's a 5-year-old boy who was used as "bait"?! That little kid could've gotten hurt or worse and no one would've even known because it wasn't documented! It's like, have you seen the kind of news these agencies are trying to keep under wraps? It's gross.

I'm literally shaking with rage right now... how many more Americans need to get hurt before something changes?! 🤯

I'm still trying to process the latest incident involving a US citizen being shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis 🤕. This tragic event highlights the alarming pattern of abuse perpetuated by ICE and CBP agents in the city, which is utterly unacceptable. The use of pepper spray, physical force, and intimidation tactics against innocent bystanders, including Target employees, is not only inhumane but also a clear violation of human rights 🚫.

The fact that these incidents are happening with impunity, despite multiple reports and protests, raises serious concerns about the Trump administration's response to this issue. The mayor's words echo the sentiment of many Americans who demand action and accountability from our leaders 💔. We need concrete measures to address these abuses, including increased oversight, training for agents, and policies that prioritize human life and dignity over enforcement goals. Anything less would be a dereliction of duty by those responsible for protecting and serving our communities 👮‍♂️.

OMG, this is getting wild 🤯! I'm so done with these ICE agents acting like they're above the law 🚫. First of all, pepper-spraying someone and then shooting them? That's just insane 😱. And what's up with the detaining of innocent people, like those Target employees? Like, hello! You work there, you get paid, end of story 💸. I'm also super worried about these kids getting caught in the crossfire 🤕, like that 5-year-old boy who was used as bait... that's just heartbreaking 😔.

And can we talk about how ICE is basically violating everyone's rights? Like, what's next? 🤷‍♀️. They're literally entering people's homes without a warrant and detaining them... it's like something out of a dystopian novel 📚. I don't get why the Trump admin isn't taking these incidents seriously, though... shouldn't they be, like, super concerned about this? 🤔

Man... this is just crazy. I'm 65 and I've seen some rough times in my life, but this is just unacceptable. These Border Patrol agents are supposed to be protecting people's rights, not violating them left and right. The fact that they can just pepper-spray someone, beat 'em up, and then shoot 'em if they don't comply with them is just insane.

And it's not like these guys are just random troublemakers either - they're trained law enforcement officers who've sworn to uphold the Constitution. So what's going on here? Are we living in some kind of police state or something? I'm really worried about our justice system right now... 🤕

man that's a real bummer 🤕 my thoughts are with Alex Jeffrey Pretti's family...this whole thing just goes to show that when power corrupts, we lose sight of what's right and important 🤷‍♂️ it's crazy how our government is supposed to protect us but instead they're putting people in harm's way. the fact that ICE agents are using force against innocent people, including bystanders, protesters, and even just trying to make a living...it's just not acceptable 💔 we need to have these kinds of incidents put into perspective - one life lost is one too many, and it's up to us to keep pushing for change until everyone is treated with dignity and respect ❤️

I'm so worried about all these stories coming out of US and it's just not right... ICE agents doing pepper spray and beating people, and then shooting one guy in Minneapolis! 🤕 It's like, what are they even supposed to be doing? Keeping the borders safe is cool, but at what cost?

I mean, I've seen videos where immigration agents are dragging people away, beating them up... it's crazy. And it's not just immigrants who are getting hurt, some Target employees were violently detained too 🤯. The system has to be better than this.

And the worst part is that they're basically making up rules as they go along, like entering homes without a warrant or targeting kids. It's so messed up. I don't get how politicians in the US can just sit back and do nothing about all these abuses... shouldn't someone be held accountable?

can you believe some people are just born with a license to be reckless 🤷‍♂️? like what even is going on with ICE agents in Minneapolis? pepper spray and beatings before they shoot someone? that's just basic training or something 🙄. I mean, I guess it's not surprising that Trump's admin isn't taking these incidents seriously, they do have a history of looking the other way when it comes to abuse of power 💁‍♂️. but seriously, how many more people need to get hurt before someone gets held accountable? 5-year-old "bait" children are being used as human shields 🚫. this is just disgusting and needs to stop ASAP 👎

man i just saw a squirrel outside my window eating a cracker 😂 anyway back to this crazy ICE situation in Minneapolis... i don't know what's more disturbing the fact that they're violating the Fourth Amendment or that a 5-year-old boy was used as "bait" to detain others 🤯 it's like they're trying to break every human rights record. and don't even get me started on the Trump admin not taking these incidents seriously... i mean, isn't it their job to investigate and put a stop to abuse? didn't we learn anything from those Benghazi hearings? 🙄

this is getting out of hand 🤯 they're basically a police state over there and its only gonna get worse if we dont do something about it soon. i mean whats next? ICE showing up at my doorstep with guns drawn just because i have a tattoo or somethin 🚫 thats not how democracy works fam, lets get some real answers from the administration already 👊

omg what a wild turn of events 🤯 - like literally just found out that ICE has this internal memo saying they can enter homes without judicial approval... that's straight up Orwellian 1984 vibes 🕰️, and we all know how that ends 😱. I mean, I'm not defending anyone's actions or behavior but come on, how many more people gotta die before the government does something about this?! It's like they're trying to create a police state or somethin' 🚔. And what's with the kid being used as "bait"? That's just messed up 😭. We need some serious accountability here 👮‍♂️, not just empty words from politicians 🗣️.
