"Totally worth it!" The 11-year-old who missed school for his first playoff game

Young Fan's School Absence Pays Off as Texans Make History in Pittsburgh

When 11-year-old Easton Rodriguez and his family ditched school to attend the Houston Texans' wild card game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, they had no idea their decision would go viral. The young fan had created a cheeky poster declaring that he missed two days of school for the big event, which read: "Missed school for my first playoff game."

Easton's family made sure to miss a total of three school days - Monday and Tuesday for Easton, and another day for his cousin Sarah Lopez. But it was totally worth it for Easton, who exclaimed, "I missed school for my first playoff game... I lost my voice... The few of us that were there, we were just trying to make a statement."

Their enthusiasm did not go unnoticed. Photos of the family's team spirit spread like wildfire across social media, including the Texans' official Facebook page, where they posted about the Rodriguezes without mentioning their absences.

The Texans ultimately won the game, advancing to the AFC Divisional Round against the New England Patriots in Foxborough. Easton and his family were over the moon as Sarah told our newspaper, "During the game... My mom said something's happening because my watch was going off... And she got the message that, hey, the Texans posted us, you know, we went viral."

Easton even got to meet his favorite player, Derek Stingley Jr., and received a signed jersey as a souvenir. When he saw it, Easton yelled to his mom, "Mom, I got a signed Stingley jersey! I almost lost my voice at first because I was like, 'Mom, I got a signed Stingley jersey!'".

When Easton returned to school this week, he found that his classmates were eager to meet the "famous" 11-year-old. His teacher asked him for an autograph, and Easton happily obliged.

For Sarah, who has been a season ticket holder for ten years, missing school was worth it too. She plans to take her older son, a high school sophomore, to watch the Texans play in Foxborough this Sunday, marking another memorable adventure for the family.

I don't get why Easton's family made a big deal about ditching school for the game. I mean, yeah, it was cool that they got to meet Derek Stingley Jr. and all, but so what? They missed out on three whole days of learning. πŸ€” That's some serious absences right there. And now everyone in his class is asking him for an autograph? It's just a bit much if you ask me... πŸ˜’

I cant even believe how cool Easton's parents were like, totally down with ditching school for the game 🀣! I mean, who needs textbooks when you're gonna be watching a playoff game with your favorite team 🏈? The pics of them all dressed up in Texans gear are hilarious πŸ˜‚. And awww, it's so sweet that Easton got to meet Derek Stingley Jr. and get his jersey 🀩. I'm definitely adding this story to my bookmark collection πŸ‘!

I'm loving how Easton's school absences paid off in such a big way! It's amazing that his enthusiasm and spirit went viral and put a smile on so many faces 🀩. And can we talk about how cool is it that he got to meet Derek Stingley Jr. and get a signed jersey? That's like, totally a dream come true for any sports fan! 😍 I'm also loving the fact that his family made school a priority (after the big game, obvi) - good on them for keeping things in perspective πŸ™. And Sarah's been a season ticket holder for 10 years? That's dedication! I'm sure her younger son is gonna have some epic experiences too πŸ‘

I don't usually comment but I think Easton's parents are kinda cool for making that poster and just going with it 🀣. I mean, who wouldn't wanna be on social media with their kid, right? πŸ“±. And omg, can you even imagine being 11 and getting to meet your fave player? That's like, the ultimate experience πŸ™Œ! Easton's family totally made some awesome memories, and it's great that they got to share them with all of us on social media 😊.

This kid Easton's thing is kinda cool I guess πŸ€”. Like he and his fam just ditched out on school for a footy game. What's weird though is that they're basically getting free publicity with it too πŸ“Έ. It's like the Texans are using them to promote their team... is that cool or is that just them taking advantage of a kid's enthusiasm? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ And what about school attendance laws? Are they being enforced in Texas or are kids really just getting away with this kinda thing all the time? πŸ“Š

πŸ€” I'm glad Easton got to experience his first playoff game with his family, but I gotta say, skipping three days of school isn't exactly ideal... especially during finals week πŸ“šπŸ˜¬ I get it, it's a big event and they wanted to be there, but the drama around their attendance might've made for an awkward classroom environment 😳.

That being said, it's awesome that Easton got to meet his favorite player and scored a signed jersey! πŸ’― And kudos to Sarah for being a season ticket holder – she's already planning another adventure with her older son? That's dedication πŸ™Œ. The internet loving Texans really did make their family go viral, but I'm sure there are other ways Easton could've shared his excitement without missing school... maybe a poster that just said "Game day!"? πŸ˜‚

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I mean, gotta respect the kid's enthusiasm πŸŽ‰. Missing three days of school for a playoff game is a big deal, especially when it pays off with a signed jersey from his fave player πŸ’Ό. Easton and his fam definitely made the most of their adventure πŸ˜„. It's cool that they got to meet Derek Stingley Jr. - that's a once-in-a-lifetime moment πŸ™Œ. And now they're already planning another trip to watch the Texans play - it's awesome how they can make memories together as a family πŸ‘«.

omg that's so cool πŸ˜†! easton and his fam totally earned their absences - who needs algebra when you can watch nfl? 🀣 i'm sure it's amazing for a kid to get to meet derek stingley jr. in person... i'd be super nervous, lol πŸ‘€ anyhoo, hope they enjoy the rest of the playoffs! 🏈πŸ’₯

🀩 I think its pretty cool that Easton and his fam went all out to catch that game! 🏈 Who wouldn't wanna ditch school for a chance to see their fave team play? πŸ˜‚ It's awesome they got to make a statement and even met Derek Stingley Jr.! That signed jersey is gonna be a sweet souvenir. 🎁 I'm surprised the Texans didn't mention Easton's absences, but it's probably good for them to just keep the focus on the game. πŸ’― The fact that his classmates are all excited about meeting him shows how big of an impact he made! πŸ‘

omg lol what even is school anyway?! i mean easton's gotta rep his team and make that poster go viral, fam 🀣🏈! 3 days missed school is totally worth it for the win and a signed jersey from derek stingley jr., right? 🀩 now easton's a celeb at school and he got an autograph out of it πŸ’―. and sarah's been a season ticket holder for years, she knows the drill πŸ‘! i'm low-key jealous tho, who wouldn't wanna miss school to watch their fave team play? πŸ˜‚

I gotta say, that's some next level dedication to a football game! 🏈 I mean, who needs an education when you can go viral on social media and get a signed jersey from their fave player? πŸ˜‚ It's kinda cool that Easton's family made it a fun experience for everyone, even if they did miss a few days of school. And props to the Texans for recognizing them and sharing it with their fans! πŸ‘ But at the same time, I do hope Easton gets back on track with his studies soon. 😊

omg that's so cool 🀩! i mean, who wouldn't want to ditch school to go cheer on their fave team? πŸ˜‚ and easton's poster is literally the best thing i've seen all week 🀣. it's awesome how his family made a statement and got viral pics to prove it πŸ“Έ. and can we talk about how amazing it is that he got to meet derek stingley jr.? πŸ’– signed jersey? yes please! πŸŽ‰

πŸ€” I mean, come on guys! Easton and his fam are literally making the most of their school absence 🀣! Who needs algebra when you can cheer on your favorite team with your whole family? 🏈 The fact that they got to meet Derek Stingley Jr. is just icing on the cake... or should I say, a signed jersey πŸ˜‚. And let's be real, going viral is a great way to make an entrance back into school πŸ“š. As long as they're making it fun and not disrupting the classes, I'm all for some extra recess time πŸ˜„. Kudos to the Rodriguezes for being awesome sports fans! πŸ‘
