Troubles-rooted play Sapling wins Women's prize for playwriting

OMG, I'm literally dying over this 🤯! Georgina Duncan's Sapling is EVERYTHING and more! I mean, 16-year-old Gerry Flynn's struggles are SO real, you'll feel like you're right there with him 🤕. The way the play tackles trauma, violence, and mental health is just 💯. I love how it's not all heavy-handed, but still packs a punch - it's like the perfect balance of dark humor and heartache 😂. The judges are low-key genius for picking this one, tbh 👏. And can we talk about the Lifetime Achievement Award? 🤩 This is such an amazing recognition for the women in the arts industry, and I'm so hyped to see what's next! 💥

I'm so over these plays being all about trauma and drama 🤯🎭 I mean, can't we just watch something lighthearted for once? Like, I get it, the Troubles era was a dark time in history, but do we really need to relive that on stage every year? Sapling sounds like a tough watch, 10 years after an event where a kid murdered another... how messed up is that 🤕. And now they're giving out a Lifetime Achievement Award for some woman who's 'made an enduring impact'? Like, what even does that mean? Can't we just give her a prize and be done with it? 💸

omg i'm so done with these lifetime achievement awards 🙄 they're just gonna give it to someone who's already famous and wealthy lol anyway back to sapling, i think what impresses me most is how darkly humorous it is 😂 like the playwright isn't afraid to tackle the hard stuff but also knows how to make you laugh at the same time. i'm all about complexity in storytelling and this play delivers that. but what i really want to say is can we talk about the fact that 10 years after a traumatic event, we're still trying to process and deal with the aftermath? it feels like we've made so little progress 🤯

Sapling is more than just a play about trauma it's a reminder that healing takes time 🌱. Gerry Flynn's story is like our own struggles with anxiety, depression, or PTSD - no one sees the cracks until they're staring right at us 😔. The winner Georgina Duncan is giving us permission to not be okay, to process our emotions and ask for help when we need it 💖. Life isn't always easy, but with plays like Sapling we have a reminder that we're not alone in this crazy thing called life 🌈
