A New Twist on Honours: Selling Them Back to the People

In a surprise move, an individual recently received an email offering to assist in upgrading their CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) – an honour awarded nearly two decades ago. The proposal suggests that those who have held such distinctions for a while might be entitled to a higher recognition, and the sender is willing to help navigate the process.

This idea may seem unusual, but it's not entirely new. As suggested by Stephen Bates in a recent article, the concept of selling honours has been around for a long time. The question now is whether this practice could be adapted to benefit society as a whole.

One possible approach proposed by Dr Orest Mulka, who shared his idea with the publication, involves making the sale of higher honours more equitable. He suggests that selling an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for 1% of one's wealth and a knighthood for 10%. The revenue generated from these sales could be directed towards supporting the NHS (the National Health Service) and helping those in need.

The benefits of this idea are multifaceted. Firstly, it provides an alternative source of funding for public services that have been underfunded. Secondly, it offers a chance for ordinary people to interact with the royal family, which could help build bridges between different social classes. Finally, it encourages individuals to reflect on their values and contributions, potentially leading to greater sense of purpose.

While this idea may raise some eyebrows, it's an intriguing proposition that warrants further consideration. As the need for public funding becomes increasingly pressing, innovative solutions like selling honours back to the people might just be the key to unlocking a more equitable society.

🤔 gotta say, i love where this is going! like, think about it - we're already talking about upgrading our honors, but what if that wasnt just for individuals? what if we opened it up to everyone? just imagine being able to "buy" an honor as a way to support a good cause. and the revenue could go towards so many things, not just NHS. like, education initiatives, community programs... the possibilities are endless! 🌟

🤔 Selling honors back to the people? That's an interesting idea 🤑. Maybe it's time to think outside the box and use something that's supposed to represent prestige for the greater good, you know? 💸 It could definitely bring in some much-needed cash for the NHS 👨‍⚕️. And who wouldn't want to rub shoulders with royalty every now and then? 😊 The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that this could be a game-changer 🎉.

🤔 I mean, who wouldn't want to cash in on their years of dedication to, you know, not really doing anything that special? 😂 The idea of selling honors for a good cause is actually kinda cool, especially if it means more funding for the NHS. But let's be real, it's also just a fancy way of saying " buy your way into respectability" 🤑 Still, I think the concept has merit – maybe we can get some of these rich folks to donate their cash to good causes instead of using it to impress their Instagram followers? 💸

😊 Can you imagine having a tangible connection with your community and the system that supports you? This idea of selling honors back to the people is kinda like a digital stock sale - once it's in your pocket, you own it! It'd be dope to see the NHS & other underfunded services get some serious cash injections 💸👍. But at the same time, it's all about perspective... what does 'selling' an honor really mean? Is it just a symbolic gesture or can we actually use that cash for good? 🤔

I think thats actually kinda cool 🤔! I mean who wouldn't wanna help out our NHS? The idea that we can sell these honors back to ourselves and use that money for good is really inspiring 💖. It's like, what's the point of holding onto something if you're not gonna use it to make a difference? Plus, think about how cool it would be to get a knighthood and then just give all the cash to charity 🤑💕. Its definitely a weird way of thinking, but sometimes thats exactly whats needed to shake things up 💥.

Ugh, can't believe I'm stuck on this forum anymore 🙄. Anyway, I think it's kinda cool that someone wants to sell their honors back for good cause 😊. But, seriously, selling honors should be way easier and less bureaucratic than what we're dealing with here. Like, why do we need a whole email chain just to figure out how to upgrade your title? 🤯 Can't they just make it a simple online form or something? And, I'm not sure about the 1% and 10% ratio for MBE and knighthood sales...seems kinda arbitrary 🤑. How would that even work in practice? Would you need a fancy lawyer to negotiate the sale? 🤷‍♂️ Anyway, I guess it's an interesting idea worth exploring further 💡. Can we please just get back to a simpler forum design, tho? 😩
