A federal law enforcement agent has shot and killed a civilian in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an immigration raid. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when protesters gathered to protest the ICE agents' presence in the residential neighborhood.
The victim, identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, was driving her car when she was confronted by ICE agents. According to video footage obtained by The Intercept, the agents told Good to "Get out of the fucking car," but instead, they fired at her vehicle, striking it multiple times and causing smoke to billow from the hood.
Good lost control of her car and crashed into another vehicle, before being struck again by the agents' gunfire. The video shows that there was no indication that Good was attempting to run over the agents, contrary to what DHS has claimed. Instead, protesters were seen filming the agents and warning them to leave the neighborhood.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the shooting, saying that it was "bullshit" and an attempt by DHS to spin the incident as self-defense. Local officials, including Rep. Ilhan Omar and Minneapolis Council Member Soren Stevenson, referred to Good as a "legal observer."
This incident is part of a growing pattern of federal agents using excessive force against unarmed civilians during immigration-related operations. In recent weeks, Border Patrol agents have opened fire on a family in San Bernardino, California; an ICE officer shot a man in Ontario, California; and another agent fired at a TikTok streamer in South Los Angeles.
Good's death is also part of a larger trend of immigrants being killed while fleeing ICE raids. Other victims include farmworker Jaime Alanís Garcia and Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez.
The Intercept has documented numerous instances of federal agents using excessive force against unarmed civilians, including shooting at protesters, onlookers, and even their own colleagues. The incident highlights the dangers posed by the current immigration system and the need for reforms to protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
