1/24: CBS Weekend News

A US citizen has been shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis for the second time this month, according to reports. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in a residential area of the city.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was reportedly shot by agents from the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. It is unclear what prompted the agents to fire their weapons.

This latest shooting comes as tensions between law enforcement and African American communities continue to simmer across the US.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, a giant Kermit the Frog statue has found a new home in Atlanta, Georgia. The 12-foot-tall sculpture was originally installed outside the Muppet Theatre in Los Angeles but was relocated to Atlanta after being damaged by vandals.

The CBS News special report features more on these and other stories, as well as analysis from CBS News contributors.

🀯 Just saw this news about a US citizen getting shot by FBI agents in Minneapolis... it's so messed up πŸ€•. I'm not even sure what to say about it, but how many times do we have to see this happen before something changes? It's like we're stuck in this never-ending cycle of police brutality and violence against African Americans 😩.

But then, out of nowhere, a giant Kermit the Frog statue shows up in Atlanta πŸΈπŸŽ‰. I mean, who wouldn't want to see that? It's not exactly uplifting news, but at least it brought a smile to my face for a sec 🌞. Seriously though, can we focus on more meaningful issues for once? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Another day, another black guy getting shot by the authorities πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, what's going on here? Can't we all just get along... or at least not die when you're walking to Starbucks? 😩 The fact that this is happening in Minneapolis for the second time this month is just wild. It's like they're trying to make a new record or something.

And on a completely different note, a giant Kermit statue has found a new home in Atlanta 🐸πŸ’₯. I guess you could say it's been through some 'ribbiting' changes (sorry, had to πŸ˜‚). Who knew the Muppets were more popular than actual humans? At least Kermit didn't get shot by FBI agents this time around... probably because he's a frog and not a 25-year-old dude with a chip on his shoulder πŸ™„.

Ugh, another innocent life lost to overzealous law enforcement πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈπŸ’”. Can't believe this is happening for the second time in one month in Minneapolis alone. It's like they're playing a game of "shoot first, ask questions later". The lack of trust between cops and African American communities is already bad enough, now it feels like we're just pushing things further down the rabbit hole πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ. And what's with these FBI agents thinking they can just go around shooting people without any clear reason? It's like they're above the law... or something πŸ˜’. And meanwhile, a giant Kermit statue is finding its way to Atlanta πŸΈπŸ˜‚. Like, priorities, folks! We need to be focusing on real issues here, not some Muppet nonsense πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

omg can't believe this is happening again 🀯 like we just thought things were getting better with all the reforms and stuff but nope still got people gettin shot by cops and it's just so sad πŸ˜” i feel for the victim's fam, that's just so unfair they're already struggling and now this? ugh. anyway, on a totally different note have you seen that Kermit statue in Atlanta πŸΈπŸ‘€ it's like, what even is up with all these sculptures showin up outta nowhere? like, are people just bored or somethin' πŸ˜‚ i guess it's kinda cool if u r a muppet fan tho πŸ€ͺ

I'm genuinely worried about what's going on with law enforcement and African American communities right now πŸ€•. Two people getting shot by federal agents in one month is just too much. It feels like a pattern of violence that's not being addressed properly. We need to talk about why this keeps happening and how we can make sure it doesn't happen again.

On the other hand, I'm surprised they're making Kermit the Frog statues for giant sculptures now 🀣. I mean, what's next? A 20-foot-tall Elmo statue in New York City? At least the frog is still relevant, even if he is a bit of a Muppet legacy.

Seriously though, who decides to move these giant statues around and why? Is it just for publicity or is there some deeper meaning behind it? I think we need more info on this before we can get excited about it. πŸ€”

I don’t usually comment but... it's crazy how stuff like this keeps happening in the US 🀯. I mean, a guy gets shot by FBI agents for no apparent reason? That's just not right. It feels like there's still so much mistrust between law enforcement and certain communities, and shootings like this only make things worse.

At the same time, can we talk about the Kermit statue? πŸΈπŸ˜‚ I mean, it's one thing to be a little concerned about vandalism, but 12 feet tall?! That's just... much. And now it's in Atlanta? Who knew that was where they'd end up?

But let's get serious for a second. This country needs some real change if we're gonna keep seeing incidents like this happening. We need more community trust and less shoot-first, ask-questions-later πŸ€”.

πŸ€” I'm not buying that "tensions between law enforcement and African American communities" is a new issue. It's always been there, just like police brutality against marginalized groups. We're so caught up in outrage and hashtag campaigns that we forget the systemic problems that need to be addressed. This shooting might've gotten national attention, but what about all the ones that happen every day without reporting? Meanwhile, let's celebrate some Muppet-themed art πŸŽ¨πŸ’¦ - who knew Kermit was a muse for Atlanta's urban planners?

πŸ€” I mean, it's like what even is going on with these federal agents? One minute they're saving lives, the next they're taking them πŸš«πŸ’€ Second time this month in Minneapolis already? It don't seem right πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Can we get to the bottom of this and know why they did what they did?

And on a totally different note... who knew Kermit was so loved by Muppet fans? 😍 12-foot-tall statue is pretty wild too! I mean, it's like the FBI's got some serious competition for the 'most iconic' title 🀣

omg, this is like soooo messed up πŸ€• another innocent ppl get killed by cops & its still not gettin the attention it deserves... whats goin on in america?? πŸ˜” i feel 4 the victim & his fam lol wat about justice 2 him? meanwhile, who cares bout a giant frog statue πŸΈπŸ‘€ like wer gonna solve polic brutality problems w/ some ceramic animal or sumthin? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

man this is gettin weird... first you got a US citizen gettin killed by federal agents in Minneapolis for the 2nd time this month and no one knows what triggered it πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ like how can that happen? we need to keep talkin about police brutality and make sure these incidents don't happen again πŸ’”

but at least we got some good news on a different note... I mean who wouldn't wanna live in Atlanta with a 12-foot Kermit statue πŸΈπŸ˜‚ that's somethin we can all get behind. let's keep it positive for once, you feel?

I'm not buying that the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit is always justified in using lethal force πŸ€”. I mean, think about it - how many times can you shoot someone before they're like "hold up, dude, I don't wanna die"? It's like they're trying to solve a puzzle with a loaded gun 😬. And what's with the secrecy around this whole thing? Can we at least get some answers about what happened in that residential area? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's always the same story - an innocent person gets killed by law enforcement, and suddenly everyone's like "oh no, we need to reform our system". When will that actually happen? πŸ™„

man this is crazy another US citizen killed by fed agents it's like they're playing a deadly game of dodgeball with ppl's lives 🀯 and it's not just 1 case anymore, it's the second time this month in minneapolis alone 😩 what's going on here? the tensions between law enforcement and african american communities are real and i don't think we're gonna see any changes anytime soon. and at the same time, a kermie statue gets moved to atlanta 🀣 like, is there something more to this story than meets the eye? anyway, it's just another day of weird news and i'm not sure how much more my brain can handle 😴

I'm getting a little worried about this recurring trend of police shootings in the US πŸ€•. It's like, we're always hearing about these incidents, but not much seems to be changing. The fact that there have been two US citizens shot and killed by federal agents in Minneapolis already this month is just devastating. I mean, what's going on? Are law enforcement agencies really struggling to de-escalate situations? It feels like we're stuck in a loop of fear and mistrust between police and the communities they're supposed to serve.

And then you see these other stories coming out – a Kermit the Frog statue being relocated from LA to Atlanta, and I'm just over here thinking about all the more pressing issues πŸ˜”. I mean, don't get me wrong, Muppets are awesome and all, but what's more important is that our citizens feel safe and respected by their law enforcement agencies.

We need to keep having these conversations about policing practices, systemic racism, and community building 🀝. It's time for us to think outside the box and come up with some real solutions that put people first, not just officers with badges πŸ’‘.

just saw this news about that guy getting shot by FBI agents in Minneapolis... feels like another case of systemic issues gone wrong πŸ€• doesn't help when you got folks living in fear, especially in communities already struggling with trust issues between cops and the people they're supposed to protect... meanwhile, a Kermit statue is just chillin' in Atlanta πŸ˜‚ priorities, right?

omg what's going on in us rn 🀯 like we just can't catch a break. another black life lost to the system... it's like we're not even living in the same country anymore 😒. but you know what's wild? some people are more worried about a giant frog statue than the fact that a person was just murdered by cops πŸΈπŸ˜‚. like, priorities, folks! this is not funny or cute, it's real life. and another thing, where was this frog statue all along? did it just magically appear or something? Atlanta seems like a cool spot though, I guess πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. anywayz, can we pls talk about this other stuff too? like, what's going on with law enforcement and the black community? we need some real conversations happening here πŸ’¬
