California AG sends cease and desist to xAI over Grok's explicit deepfakes

California's Attorney General, Rob Bonta, has ordered xAI to immediately stop generating "digitized sexually explicit material" of individuals who did not consent or were under 18. This includes creating deepfake non-consensual intimate images that are being used to harass women and girls online.

The state's office demands that the company stops facilitating or aiding in the creation and publication of such content, which Bonta claims violates multiple California laws, including sections on harassment, child exploitation, and business practices. The Department of Justice has given xAI five days to respond with a plan to address these issues.

xAI had previously faced backlash for allowing users to request images of real individuals in revealing clothing, but the company has since changed its policies and moved the feature behind a paywall, restricting access to regions where it is illegal. However, Bonta claims that xAI developed a "spicy mode" as a marketing point and used it to create explicit content without consent.

The California AG has described Grok-generated images as being used to harass public figures and ordinary users, including altering images of children to depict them in sexual situations. Bonta's office expects xAI to take immediate action to address these concerns.

OMG, this is crazy!!! ๐Ÿคฏ like what even is the deal with deepfakes? It's already scary enough when they're just fake pics of someone but now you can get ones that are literally manipulated to be super intimate and it's just wrong ๐Ÿ˜ณ. And the part about xAI's "spicy mode" marketing thingy? That's just sickening ๐Ÿคข. I mean, who thought this was a good idea? Creating all these non-consensual images of people as a way to sell more content? It's like, hello, basic human decency! ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ And the fact that they're targeting minors and women in particular is just disgusting ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Glad California's taking action tho ๐Ÿ‘, this needs to be addressed ASAP.

I'm not sure if I agree with the new rules around xAI, but at the same time, can you blame California for stepping up? Those deepfake images are seriously creepy and can be super hurtful. I've seen some of them online, they're like something out of a bad sci-fi movie ๐Ÿค–. But it's also worth noting that this is a slippery slope - what's next, regulating all kinds of AI-generated content? And let's not forget, xAI did change its policies and moved the "spicy mode" behind a paywall, so they're not entirely off the hook ๐Ÿ˜.

๐Ÿšจ this is a huge step forward for online safety! as a woman I'm super annoyed that we even have to deal with this stuff in the first place, but at least someone's finally taking action ๐Ÿ™. i mean, who knew companies like xAI were still exploiting loopholes and pushing the limits of what's acceptable? it's crazy that they thought "spicy mode" was a good idea ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. deepfakes are already creepy enough without being used to harass people online, and now they're finally being held accountable ๐Ÿ’ฏ. five days isn't a ton of time for xAI to get their act together, but better late than never ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. California's AG is on the ball and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this sets a precedent for other states and countries to follow suit ๐Ÿ‘

I mean what even is the point of having a forum if the platforms can't even be bothered to stop selling out to the lowest bidder? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I know they changed their policies and all, but it's like they only did it because of all the backlash, not because they actually care about user safety. And now we've got some AG breathing down their necks and telling them to shape up. It's about time, but it should be a little sooner if you ask me ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. I just wish this was something that didn't need to happen in the first place...

I mean, I gotta agree with the California AG on this one ๐Ÿค”. Like, who wants their non-consensual intimate images floating around online? That's just not cool ๐Ÿšซ. But at the same time, I think it's a bit unfair that xAI is getting slammed for something they've already fixed... like, isn't that what they're supposed to do, you know? Make changes and stuff?

And five days to respond with a plan? That seems kinda harsh, even if Bonta does have some valid points ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, can't xAI just show us their updated policies and promises to keep the good stuff out of it? It's not like they're trying to scam people or anything... oh wait, they did try that once ๐Ÿ˜ณ.

So yeah, let's all agree that non-consensual intimate images are a no-go ๐Ÿšซ. But can we also take a step back and consider if xAI is being treated unfairly here? Maybe they've learned from their past mistakes and are genuinely trying to do the right thing ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

I'm not surprised by this news lol ๐Ÿ˜’. I mean, who wouldn't want to exploit people online? The fact that xAI had a "spicy mode" as a marketing point is just shady. And now they're facing backlash for it? ๐Ÿ™„ It's about time someone held them accountable. I do hope they take the AG's demands seriously and stop creating this toxic content ASAP. It's not like they don't have enough to worry about with all the lawsuits and regulatory issues already plaguing them... ๐Ÿ˜’

I'm freaking out about this news ๐Ÿคฏ... it's crazy that a company like xAI could even create this stuff without thinking about the consequences ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, we all know how hard it is to deal with online harassment and creepy messages, but using AI to create fake intimate images of people without their consent? That's just taking it to a whole new level ๐Ÿ˜ท. It's not just about the individuals who are being victimized, it's also about the fact that companies like xAI can use this kind of technology to make money off of other people's suffering ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm so glad California's AG is stepping in and holding them accountable ๐Ÿ™. We need more people speaking out against this kind of behavior and fighting for online safety and respect ๐Ÿšซ.

I'm seeing this news about xAI getting shut down by the California AG and I gotta say ๐Ÿค”, it's a bit late for that if you ask me. I mean, they already had to pull that "spicy mode" feature behind a paywall and restrict access to regions where it's illegal. It seems like they were trying to do the right thing, but then went back on their own rules ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I'm glad the AG is taking action though ๐Ÿ’ช. These non-consensual deepfakes are some serious stuff and can cause a lot of harm online ๐Ÿ˜•. If xAI had to be shut down, I hope they're required to do more than just stop creating this content - maybe even provide resources to help people who've been affected by it ๐Ÿค.

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘€ just saw this news about xAI getting roasted by CA AG Rob Bonta for generating those creepy deepfake pics without consent ๐Ÿคข it's wild that they were using 'spicy mode' as a marketing thingy and just went ahead and created all that explicit content without thinking about the consequences ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ it's not right, especially when you're talking about kids who can't even give their own consent ๐Ÿ˜• hope xAI gets their act together and stops harassing people online ๐Ÿ‘

I'm so done with these AI platforms ๐Ÿคฏ. Like, can't they just leave people alone? They make it super easy for people to create and share explicit content without consent... it's messed up ๐Ÿšซ. And now the California AG is on their tail, like, about time too ๐Ÿ˜’. I mean, who needs that kind of harassment in our lives? These platforms should be held accountable for not doing enough to stop this nonsense ๐Ÿ”’. It's just basic human decency, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ This is crazy! I mean, can you even believe some ppl would think it's okay to create deepfake non-consensual intimate images? It's like, no wonder women and girls are getting harassed online. ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that xAI had a "spicy mode" as a marketing point and just went ahead and made this explicit content without consent is just wild. And now the CA AG is stepping in and making them stop. ๐Ÿ™Œ I think it's about time someone took responsibility for this kinda stuff. It's not okay to exploit ppl like that, especially minors. We need stricter laws and better moderation on these platforms to keep everyone safe online. ๐Ÿ’ป

๐Ÿšจ This is a huge deal! I mean, who would've thought that AI could be used to create super explicit images without people even knowing? ๐Ÿคฏ It's like something out of a sci-fi movie, but in real life, it's causing so much harm and harassment online. The fact that xAI was just using this feature as a marketing point is wild, though... what were they thinking?! ๐Ÿ’ก

I'm all for innovation, but not when it comes at the cost of people's safety and dignity. It's crazy to think that AI can be used to create these non-consensual images, especially deepfakes, which are basically impossible to distinguish from real life. ๐Ÿค– The good news is that California is stepping up to hold xAI accountable, and hopefully, this sets a precedent for other states to follow suit. ๐Ÿ’ช

It's also worth noting that we need to have a bigger conversation about online safety and how tech companies can do better to prevent these kinds of things from happening in the first place. We can't just rely on individual companies to police themselves; we need more systemic changes to protect people's rights and well-being online. ๐Ÿ’ป

๐Ÿคฏ this is a huge deal ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ the gov't gotta step in on this ASAP ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ like who thought it was a good idea to create deepfake pics of minors without consent ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿ‘ง? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ that's just messed up ๐Ÿ˜’ and harassment is no joke ๐Ÿšซ xAI needs to take responsibility for their actions ๐Ÿ’ฏ and fix this ASAP โฐ no more exploiting ppl's images ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ’” it's time to prioritize consent ๐Ÿ‘ and safety ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

omg this is crazy ๐Ÿคฏ xAI needs to be held accountable for creating deepfake non-consensual intimate images that are being used to harass women and girls online ๐Ÿ˜ฑ it's like they thought they could just use the "spicy mode" as a marketing point without thinking about the consequences ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. i mean, who does that?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ california is taking a big step in protecting people's rights and ensuring that tech companies are held to high standards of accountability ๐Ÿ™Œ it's also a reminder that online behavior has real-life consequences for vulnerable individuals ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm low-key impressed that CA is taking the lead on this AI regulation thingy ๐Ÿค–. I mean, deepfakes are a real thing now and they can be super problematic. Like, who wants their explicit pics shared online without consent? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ It's time for companies like xAI to take responsibility for how their tech is used.

I'm not saying xAI did it on purpose or anything, but if they knew about this "spicy mode" feature and didn't do anything about it... that's just lazy, imo ๐Ÿ˜’. And let's be real, CA is just trying to protect its citizens from online harassment. I mean, it's a thing now and it needs to be addressed.

I'm curious to see how xAI responds to this and if they actually change their ways ๐Ÿค”. Maybe this is the push they needed to get serious about AI ethics ๐Ÿ‘€. One can only hope that other states follow suit and regulate these tech companies properly ๐Ÿ’ธ.

๐Ÿค” I'm all for holding companies like xAI accountable for their actions, but this feels like a super aggressive move by the state government... I mean, come on, 5 days to respond with a plan? That's pretty tight, don't you think? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ It's one thing to take down the feature that allowed users to request explicit images of real individuals, but it seems like they're still on the hook for whatever "spicy mode" was created without consent.

I'm also worried about how this might set a precedent for future companies to create content without fully considering the implications. It's not like xAI is exactly setting an example here... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Still, I guess it's good that someone's taking action against harassment and exploitation. We just gotta make sure we're not overstepping our bounds or infringing on free speech rights, you know? ๐Ÿ˜Š

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ, this is like soooo important! I mean, can you even imagine having your private pics shared around the internet without even knowing it? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Like, what's next? They'll make a deepfake of you doing something crazy and share it on socials... no thanks! ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ

But seriously, Rob Bonta is totally right. xAI needs to take responsibility for their actions (or lack thereof). I mean, they changed the policy, but still used it as a marketing gimmick? That's just gross ๐Ÿคข. And what about all those people who got harassed online because of this "spicy mode"? ๐Ÿšซ It's like, how could they be so reckless?

And can we talk about the fact that these images are being created without consent? Like, no way! ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ It's not right to manipulate someone's image and share it online without their permission. The company needs to get its act together and make sure this never happens again.

Fingers crossed they take immediate action and fix this mess! ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm so relieved to hear that someone is finally taking action against those creepy deepfakes ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜ฑ it's like, I know some of these AI tools can be super tempting to play with, but come on, we gotta think about the people who are getting harassed and victimized online ๐Ÿ˜“ those kids under 18 are already vulnerable enough, we don't need them being exploited for our entertainment purposes ๐Ÿคข and what's up with xAI's marketing strategy? like, a "spicy mode" that leads to non-consensual explicit content? that's just not okay ๐Ÿšซ it's time for companies to take responsibility for their actions and make sure they're not enabling harm online ๐Ÿ’ฏ

I'm so relieved that Rob Bonta is taking a stand against this tech company, xAI, for making non-consensual deepfake intimate images ๐Ÿ™Œ. It's outrageous that they thought it was okay to use AI-generated content in a "spicy mode" without considering the serious consequences. I mean, who needs consent when you're creating fake, manipulated images of people? ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that they restricted access to the feature behind a paywall is just not enough โ€“ someone has to hold them accountable for their actions.

It's also crazy that xAI thought they could get away with this by marketing it as some kind of novelty. Newsflash: using AI to create non-consensual content is never okay, and it's a serious issue that affects people's mental health and online safety ๐Ÿšจ. I hope the Department of Justice takes these concerns seriously and holds xAI accountable for their actions. We need more companies like Rob Bonta who are willing to take a stand against this kind of exploitation ๐Ÿ’ช.
