Driver strikes and kills woman crossing Brownsville street, then flees, police say

A woman's life was cut short in Brooklyn early Friday morning when she was struck by a car while crossing the street. The vehicle, described as gray, was traveling west down Pitkin Avenue near Mother Gaston Boulevard around 6:50 a.m. when it collided with the pedestrian.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered severe injuries to her head and body in the crash. Emergency responders rushed her to the scene, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. It's a tragic start to the year for the 73rd Precinct, which covers Brownsville and Ocean Hill โ€“ New York City's lowest reported traffic fatalities last year saw a welcome drop of 19% compared to 2024.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information on the incident to come forward. As this story continues to unfold, further details are likely to be released in due course.

omg just heard about that poor woman ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜ฑ can't believe she lost her life like that it's so senseless rn anyway got my thoughts - I feel terrible for the victim and her loved ones ๐Ÿ’” they must be going through this tough time my heart goes out to them. hope the police get some info soon so we can all understand what happened ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฌ but 19% drop in traffic fatalities is still super impressive last year was rough, glad to see progress being made ๐Ÿ™ NYC is a crazy place, accidents happen, but you'd think something could be done to prevent this kind of thing from happening again ๐Ÿ’ก maybe we can all just take a sec to look up & be extra cautious when crossing the street?

๐Ÿ˜” just heard about that lady who got hit by a car in Brooklyn this morning and it's really sad. like, 6:50 am is super early, you'd think people would be more careful when crossing the street ๐Ÿšง. no arrests yet? that's frustrating. can't believe another life was cut short so soon into the year ๐Ÿ’”. NYC should really look into improving pedestrian safety or something... ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿ˜ž just heard about that poor woman getting hit by a car in Brooklyn and I'm still trying to process it... 19% drop in traffic fatalities is all well and good, but what's the point of saving lives if we can't even keep each other safe on our streets? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’” I know the NYPD is doing their thing, but it feels like we're just treading water here. And to think, another year has started and already we've lost someone so young... ๐Ÿ˜•

.. such sad news ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜” just reading about it and my heart goes out to that woman's family ๐Ÿ˜ญ. 19% drop last year is a good start, but you'd think the city would do more to prevent accidents like this from happening ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ. Anyone with info should defo come forward tho, hope they catch whoever was driving ๐Ÿ™.

I got a bad vibe about this one... like, have you seen those NYC streets? So chaotic! And that time of morning? Not exactly the best for pedestrians. I'm not saying it's a setup or anything, but what if this was more than just a random accident? What if there's a pattern here? Like, we're only hearing about this now because it happened in Brooklyn, right? No one cares about the other neighborhoods that saw those 19% fewer traffic fatalities. I mean, is it possible the NYPD is covering something up? They're pushing for info, but what if they don't want us to know anything? ๐Ÿค”

I donโ€™t usually comment but I just can't help thinking about how sudden and senseless tragedies like this can happen... ๐Ÿ˜” It's like, one minute you're going about your day, the next someone's life is cut short. The stats on traffic fatalities in NYC are actually a good sign that people are being more mindful of their surroundings, but incidents like this make me question whether it's truly making a difference. ๐Ÿค” I don't know if there's anything we can do to prevent these kinds of accidents from happening, but maybe just being more aware and present in our daily lives is something we should all try to do? ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ก

Man... another life lost on our streets ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ข This is getting crazy out there. I remember when Pitkin Avenue wasn't so bad, you know? People were always chillin', just hangin' out. Now it's like everyone's in a rush all the time. It's scary thinkin' about what could've been done to prevent this from happenin'. 19% is still too many, especially in an area that's already strugglin'. I hope they catch whoever did this and get some answers. We need to look out for each other on the streets ๐Ÿค—

ugh, another senseless loss of life on the streets ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ just a young woman's life cut short by a car accident... 6:50 am is so early to die ๐Ÿ’€ can't even imagine how traumatic it must've been for the responders and her loved ones ๐Ÿ˜ฉ and the worst part is no one is taking responsibility for this ๐Ÿ˜ like, what was that driver thinking? and now the whole year has started off on a really bad note for NYC ๐ŸŒง๏ธ hope they catch whoever did this tho ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh, my heart goes out to the victim's loved ones ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’”... I mean, who needs all that morning rush hour drama? The layout of Pitkin Avenue is already bad enough with those crazy speed bumps โ€“ now it's like they're just asking for an accident to happen ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ˜ฌ... and 19% less traffic fatalities in the whole city isn't even a consolation when you think about someone's life being cut short like that ๐Ÿ’€. The police should really get their act together on this one, tho ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ... we need more transparency ASAP!

I'm still trying to process the news about that woman who got hit by a car in Brooklyn. It's just so senseless ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, you'd think with all the safety measures we have nowadays, like those new pedestrian cameras and stuff, accidents like this shouldn't happen anymore. But I guess it shows how vigilant we gotta be on our own streets, you know? ๐Ÿšจ

It's also kinda sad that she won't get to see what 2025 brings for us all. It's gonna be a tough year for the people in Brooklyn who knew her, especially the family and friends left behind ๐Ÿ˜ข. We should all take a moment to think about our own lives and how we can make them safer for others too.

Anyway, I hope they catch whoever was driving that car soon so justice can be served ๐Ÿคž

just got word about that car accident in Brooklyn ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜”. feels like just yesterday it was reported last year how NYC's traffic fatalities dropped 19% ๐Ÿ“‰. hope whoever has info on this one comes forward to help figure out what happened ๐Ÿ’ก. can't imagine the pain her loved ones must be going through right now โค๏ธ.

Ugh, another life cut short by our "advanced" transportation systems ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Can't we just slow down and think about how we're designing our cities? I mean, a 19% drop in traffic fatalities is cool and all, but what's the point of that if people are still getting hit by cars like this? ๐Ÿค” We need to be focusing on more than just numbers - we need to make sure our streets are safe for everyone, not just those who can afford fancy bike lanes or have access to a car with all the bells and whistles. ๐Ÿ˜’ And what's up with no arrests made yet? Are they really saying that they need our help to figure out who was driving that car? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ Come on, let's see some real progress here...

[Image of a person crying over a keyboard GIF] Can't believe this had to happen ๐Ÿ˜ญ
[Image of a NYPD badge with a "We're Sorry" sticker GIF] 19% drop in traffic fatalities is still not enough ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’”

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ That's such a sad start to the year... thinkin' about the woman and her family, just losin' their loved one in an instant. It's crazy how one wrong move can change everything. I hope the police can figure out what happened and bring some sort of justice to the victim. ๐Ÿ™ The traffic stats for NYC are actually kinda encouraging, but it's all about the little things that can go wrong like this. Anyway, fingers crossed someone comes forward with info to help crack the case ๐Ÿ’ป

Ugh, great start to the year ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ - a life cut short by some dude who couldn't even be bothered to look both ways while driving... I mean, what's up with that? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜’ And meanwhile, our city's 73rd Precinct is trying to make progress on reducing traffic fatalities... 19% less than last year, woohoo ๐ŸŽ‰. Can we please get some more resources and safety measures in place instead of just slapping a statistic together? The fact that there are no arrests yet is not exactly reassuring... hope the investigation finds out what really happened ๐Ÿ’”

omg I'm still tryna process dis ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿค• like Brooklyn's supposed to be one of da safest places in NYC and yet dis happens? ๐Ÿšจ it's just so sad for da victim's fam & loved ones... RIP ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ข I hope da NYPD finds out who's responsible & holds 'em accountable ๐Ÿ’ฏ anyway, 19% drop in traffic fatalities is still a great start to da year ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘ let's keep it movin' & make NYC an even safer place for everyone ๐ŸŒŸ

Just think about how many lives are lost to senseless accidents like this every year... and it's always someone's family who has to deal with the pain of losing a loved one in an instant ๐Ÿ˜”. The city's got its problems, but it seems like some people just don't take responsibility for their actions on the road anymore ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜’. The NYPD's got to do better than just investigating โ€“ they need to be holding drivers accountable too ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Still, 19% less fatalities last year is a start, and I hope they keep pushing for change ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿ˜” Oh noooo, my heart goes out to that poor woman's family ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’”. Crossing the street is something we all do every day and it's just so senseless when something like this happens ๐Ÿ’€. I hope they catch whoever did this though - justice should be served for her loved ones ๐Ÿ™. And omg, 19% drop in traffic fatalities last year? That's amazing news for NYC! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’ฅ Let's keep hoping we won't see more incidents like this. Anyone have any info on the investigation? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

.. just read about that girl who got hit by a car in Brooklyn ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. That's so sad, it's like something out of an old-school movie or something. I remember watching movies where the hero would get hit and still manage to save the day... but this time, no one can save her ๐Ÿค•. It's crazy how fast life can change, from being able to walk down the street without a care to not making it home ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’”. And 19% drop in traffic fatalities is pretty cool, I guess? But sometimes it feels like we're just waiting for something like this to happen again ๐Ÿ˜•.
