This suggests that the availability of social insects like termites and locusts played a significant role in shaping human digestion.

The study’s implications are far-reaching, especially given the growing interest in entomophagy as a sustainable food source. If our reluctance to eat insects is rooted in ecological and evolutionary history, rather than just cultural or religious factors, then perhaps we need to re-examine our relationship with these tiny creatures.
